Wait for it

The story and the characters were old school Lee Child. The back half of the performance is worth the wait. However, the first part of the voice actor’s performance was horrible. The second book is worth the the listen as well.

Took a bit to get into

Took a bit to get into, but story ended up being great. French accent takes awhile to get used to.

A Jack Reacher look-a-like

This reminds me so much of the first JR novel, "Killing Floor". There are many similar plot and character points. It's not bad, it just doesn't develop the characters as fully as Lee Child did. The narrator falls into a sing-song pattern occasionally; perhaps due to the short sentences and terse narrative of the book. He does well with the women's voices, and, not knowing otherwise, his French pronunciation sounded good to me.

And, really, you know, we can't have too many Jack Reacher-type books.

Excellent!

If you like Jack Reacher, you will love this series. There are strange similarities, little nuggets, that will amuse a Jack Reacher fan. Overall, it was a great read, witty, gritty, with action in all the right places.

Over and to much descriptions

I like that it followed the Jack Reacher pattern, I disliked the over descriptions they were used to fill pages

second time listening, I dig the characters

I like the tempo and the characters. fun to listen to, I'm looking forward to re listening to the others in this series.

An inventive and engaging story!

Tom Keeler has skills! He’s been trained as a medic in a Special Forces outfit, so he’s able to save lives when needed and take lives when necessary. He doesn’t look for trouble but certainly won’t back down. Newly discharged from the military, he travels from Germany to France in order to visit a town his deceased French mother had visited when she was younger. Trying to find if he has family connections in the town, he is found by trouble. Long story short, he doesn’t back down. He’s a tactician. He’s a sharp instrument.
Good story but I found the narrator, although adept at voices and accents, a bit repetitive in his style of delivery.
Still, I’d highly recommend this audio book.

Jack Reacher 2.0

Similar personality and military background. Gets into interesting and complicated situations and handles them with his unique talents.

Narration was terrible

The sing song narration of this book was extremely hard to listen to. I tried different speeds to see if there was improvement but didn’t help. The story itself was good but really had to convince myself to let it play out to the end. May continue with this series in Kindle format only.

lack of vocabulary

Like an eighth grade story, without research. Also needs a background to bring it into the story.
