It's one of the true Black Library classics, and one of the first novels to make the bad guys the heroes...and it introduced the mighty Warsmith Honsou, who went on to plague the Ultramarines across plenty of novels. The story:

Quintessential 40k

I could hardly stop listening once this started.

Action packed. Full of hope and loss, triumph and tragedy. You will root for villains and heroes alike. Grimdark and magnificent.

40k isn't written like this, anymore.

Brutal

This is probably one of the more brutal 40K books I’ve read that isn’t about the night lords. Though initially slow it’s slow for a reason it’s a siege on a massive fortress with lots of character moments for the human characters of course in particular Hawke, Leonid, and Lorana Utorian. But the astartes characters are great in particular Honsou.

Iron within! Iron without!

I have read this book so many times my original copy disintegrated. I'm so happy to finally have an audio book version. I can't recommend this book enough. Especially to anyone who likes chaos. while chaos characters in this book are my favorite, I really did like the imperial characters as well. Hands down my favorite 40k book and the reason I play Iron Warriors on the table top.

Pretty great read for me, though I may be biased

Worth the time if your an Iron Warriors fan. Personal favorite for me, with some minor dark humor gems in that I found to be great 👍

A brutal grinding listen; suitable for the IVth

The story gives a brutal and grinding view of an siege by the Iron Warriors. With that in mind, the novel does a great job of encapsulating the experience as sections were a brutal listen and other sections were filled with morose preparations. That said, at times this made it into a monotonous listen with an inevitable conclusion.

Best iron warrior book. One of the best 40k books.

Excellent grounded grimdark. I couldn’t ask for more from a chaos book. It shows how disgusting they’re. While staying in the mind set of a space marine.

Loved the characters and building tension in the siege.

Fantastic book where chaos is the protagonist. Loved hearing their perspectives and motications. Highly recommend.

Great read with a weird end

Loved the whole book, except the end. Still very worth the listen for backstory on the infamous Honsou. I loved the insight into Iron Warriors battle tactics. and and infamous Imperator Titan makes a huge appearance! Only the end kept it from being a 5 star. it felt like it wrapped up too quickly.

One of the best books out there

one of the best books out there and I've read 100s. With an avatar of khon, demon prince, and the two best siege -attacking and defending forces of 40k going head to head- killing thousands on both sides, what more can you want, please make this into a movie!!!!!!

Amazing listen

Action packed well written and narrated did a good job of capturing the spirit and feeling of an iron warriors story.
