In the city of Andalay, the ruling Fates bestow gifts among society’s most favored. When Damien, a cold and hardened thief, is hired to steal one of those gifts—meant for the “princess” of Ward One, Wren Hayes—he finds himself entangled in a web of secrets.
The gift? A locket containing his own photograph.
Once the locket is opened, hidden truths unravel, shedding light on the ruthless ways of the upper class. Yearning for the three Fates and the magical gifts they bestow, the lords of Andalay will go to any length to keep their power—including murder.
Brought together by destiny, and fighting a temptation that neither understand, Wren and Damien navigate a seedy world where the truth can destroy not only their lives, but the city itself.

In Andalay, the Fates supposedly grant magical gifts to those they favor… or at least that’s what everyone believes. The story is packed with twists that flip everything the characters think they know. Damien, a morally gray thief from the south side, steals the gift meant for Wren on her 18th birthday, and she’s determined to uncover what happened to it.
This is definitely a slow-burn story, but it’s worth it. I really loved Wren’s character. Her growth throughout the book was really good, you could tell she felt for others (that it was no longer about her gift). The discoveries and plot twists were so fun, and every reveal made the story even more interesting.
And that cliffhanger?? I need the next book immediately.

At its core, I really enjoyed this story. The characters were engaging, easy to root for, and carried the narrative well. There’s a strong emotional thread throughout, and the plot itself kept me invested from beginning to end. The final stretch, especially, was a highlight—the ending landed in a satisfying way and took a turn I didn’t fully see coming. It wasn’t a jaw-dropping twist, but it was thoughtful and impactful enough to leave a lasting impression.
That said, the tone felt a bit inconsistent. The writing style and overall storytelling leaned very YA—fast-paced, character-driven, and accessible—but it was paired with frequent swearing and a closed-door romance that didn’t quite align with that same audience. It created a bit of a disconnect. It felt like the book was written for younger readers, but with elements that didn’t fully fit that category. I found myself wishing it had committed more clearly one way or the other: either lean fully into YA and tone down the language, or elevate the writing and themes to feel more distinctly adult.
Even with that, the strengths of the story and characters carried it through. It’s an enjoyable read with a compelling narrative and a memorable ending.
Overall: A solid, character-driven story with a strong finish—just a bit caught between YA and adult in its execution.
