LEAVE ME BEHIND meets THE HANDMAID’S TALE in this star-crossed dystopian romance by the author of LOVE SICK, Deidra Duncan.

In the ruins of a nation, two enemies risk everything for a chance at justice… and each other.

After the Fracture, nothing is safe—not love, not truth, and certainly not women. In the ashes of the fallen United States, the New American Order has seized power, silencing dissent and enslaving the vulnerable. To stop the spread of their evil, Sophia Reeves has given everything to the Defiance, a resistance force battling the NAO, but now, her general has another command: become a contact for an enemy officer-turned-spy. She understands the sacrifice this order requires. Association with a Blood Colonel is a death sentence—especially for a woman.

He’s just a name at first. A whisper in the dark. But week by week, Lucas Scott becomes something more—dangerously unreadable, brutally efficient, and far too human for a man embedded in a regime that breaks people like her. Sophia expects cruelty. She prepares for betrayal. What she finds is a man haunted by secrets, driven by grief, and willing to burn the whole world down for a hope he’s barely clinging to.

Their alliance is a fragile one, forged in shadow and drenched in danger. But as the Defiance grows closer to victory, their missions become deadlier, and the line between duty and desire blurs. Beneath the shadow of escalating war, Sophia and Lucas must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice for a cause that might already be lost—and for a love they were never meant to find.

Hauntingly raw and achingly romantic, UNTIL I DIE is a story of rebellion, redemption, and the unbreakable will to love in a world that has forgotten how.

War romance and all that comes with it. I absolutely loved this book. Great narration and story. Scary to think these things could actually happen. My heart was broken again and again and I loved it. Brb going to listen a second time.

Dystopian Romance - devastatingly beautiful

This book had me hooked from the beginning. It tells a story of two people on opposite sides of a war that find each other. The struggles and trials they are faced with the ugliness of war. And the facts that are similar to the way our own world is today. If I cried with books then this one would have had me in tears! This is a highly recommend but check triggers.

Relatable

The Love Story with a hauntingly beautiful blend of romance and fear that stays with you long after the last page. It’s the kind of book that makes your heart race and ache at the same time, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I finished.

I don’t even know where to start because this book absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. My first 6 star read of 2026, no question. Lucas and Sophia are forever tattooed on my heart. Their struggle, the constant battle between duty and desire, the way they lose themselves and somehow find each other again against impossible odds… it was everything.

This story is heavy, brutal, and painfully real, but also deeply romantic in a way that feels earned. The world is terrifyingly close to our own, which made every choice, every sacrifice, hit harder. Sophia is fierce and resilient even when she’s breaking, and Lucas is complex, conflicted, and so deeply human that I couldn’t stop thinking about him long after I finished.

The slow burn, the tension, the moral gray areas, the love that feels dangerous but necessary… I was fully consumed. This book doesn’t shy away from trauma or the cost of rebellion, but it also reminds you why love still matters when everything else is falling apart.

Fan girl mode fully activated. This was exactly what I needed right after Alchemised, and I already know this one is going to live rent free in my mind for a long time. If you love dark dystopian romance with real stakes, emotional depth, and characters that stay with you, don’t skip this one.
