Resumen del Editor

Mo Collins survived the beginning of the zombie apocalypse by staying on the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora. But after a chance meeting with another survivor named Smokes, everything changed.

Mo has become The Hero in a story seemingly channeled by Smokes. Following a prewritten script, Mo and Smokes gathered a crew of typical zombie-apocalypse survivors. Well, typical except the zombies are called peevies; are not dead but blue; naked, shit-spewing, infected, rapidly evolving monsters that will rip you apart and eat you slowly.

With the help of The Expert, The Tech, The Old Friend, and The Oracle, they defended their island home from betrayers, zombie hordes, and villainous dictators. Oh, they also survived a plane crash rescuing Mo's brother. Being The Hero is hard work.

Now on a quest to find a cure, follow Mo and his crew on their continuing adventures, as they tempt fate and chart their way down the river. What new adventures will they encounter? What new dangers will they find? Will they find new friends? New foes? Will Smokes find more Newports?

Meanwhile, back in the tranquil oasis of Guntersville, something dark and sinister has crept in - a wolf in sheep's clothing, a vile monster that hungers for the treasure that is humanity's best hope for the future…the children.

Can good triumph over evil? Will this wickedness spread? Who will stand against the malevolence? Is all hope lost?

It's the end of the world as we know it.

Come join us, friend, on this continuing wild ride. In a place where the zombies bite...fish bite...life always bites...and sometimes, people bite.

Welcome aboard, friend, to The Still Alive series.

The box set includes:

Book five: Zombie River Run

Book six: Zombie Paradise Lost

These books occur at the same time, and the interludes are repeated in each in order to establish continuity with the timelines.

Blue Peevies!

This series has become one of my favorites, especially in audiobook form. Mr. Javan Bonds has created a LOL funny group of characters that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

Mo Collins, the main protagonist, is on his way to find a possible cure for the zombie invasion that has overrun the world. His motley crew aboard the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora, includes all of the main characters I have come to love. On the way to find the cure, Mo and his crew have to stop at the numerous locks and dams along the rivers in order to navigate. Mo's new sister-in-law is the only person who can handle the technology and Mo seems to be destined to be one of her bodyguards at each lock. Of course, with Mo along, there are plenty of peevie encounters at each stop.

Mo's brother, Easy, insists that they make a detour to Tuscaloosa to pick up the Alabama football teams' National Championship trophy. We all know that this is super important in a world being overrun by blue infected people trying to eat everyone who isn't blue, right?

Mr. Bonds continues to throw in plenty of references to sci-fi, comic books, and other geeky things, which is one of the things that makes this series unique and enjoyable. He also describes each and every battle scene and individual death in a unique way and these scenes are never boring. You never know what gruesome detail you will hear next .No matter how many peevies are encountered, Mr. Bonds manages to have a new way of exterminating each and every one of them. And, of course, our blue, ever erect and continuously diarrhea- prone bluenatics continue to try to infect everyone in sight.

I have been waiting for the appearance of pirates in this series and this time around, I finally got my wish! The encounter between our beloved protagonists and a horde of pirates was a highlight of this book.

S.W. Salzman has become the voice of this series and even when I am reading a physical book set in this series, his voices for each of the characters is what I hear in my head. I can't imagine these books without his narration! It makes a great series even better, if that's possible!

If you are easily offended by gore, blood, brutal descriptions of body parts, political incorrectness or the f-bomb, don't read this series. But, if you are looking for something different in the growing zombie genre, give it a try. Just be prepared to be laughing or sometimes cringing throughout the book!

In "Zombie Paradise Lost" Mo's father, Randy Collins, continues to act as Mayor and tries to keep the peace among the survivors. Unfortunately, something is happening as young girls in the community keep disappearing without a trace.

Of course, we have numerous deaths, including a few of beloved characters (why am I not surprised?). "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die." "You're always where you are supposed to be" continues to be the theme in this series.

Mr. Bonds kills off hoards of minor characters in this book, many through friendly fire or by suicide in order to avoid turning blue like a smurf (or smurfette). All of my favorite characters are back in this book, along with some new (villainous) ones. Mo and Smokes don't figure as prominently in this episode, but there is still plenty of their special and humorous relationship to entertain the reader. I also appreciate that Mr. Bonds continues to use references to sci-fi movies and comic books for those of us who are closet nerds (like Mo and Gene).

The addition of the Alpha and the Wolf add a totally different dimension to this installment. Hopefully, these two will meet suitably horrific ends in a future book. It's always nice to have a villain that you love to hate!

I appreciate Mr. Bonds' talent in writing laugh out loud humor. Any book that has the following quote in the first few pages has got to be good: "I can imagine the monsters trying to bite Nancy Pelosi and getting silicone poisoning." I should know by now not to read these books in public places.....I always end up embarrassing myself!

I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author and narrator and chose to review it.

very repetitive

I like the first few books in this series but the last few have been dull and boring, actually using the same exact passages in some places. And why is this guy obsessed with cutting upthe zombies private parts and describing it in detail over and over again. Also the main characters are hardly in the book.

This series is great!

Okay, book 4 has a lot of action and I loved how things played out. Book 5 things slowed down, but I think some of what made it feel slow was having all the action just before that. Book 5 still has plenty of fun in it though, especially the sick and twisted kind lol. Fair warning, post kill details get graphic, so beware if you are faint of heart. Additional remark, I originally wanted to name the title of this review "Male genetalia and those equipped with it, beware for fear of nightmares", but the character limit would not allow all of that. Overall I loved how things are playing out. I am typing this after reading book 7, so trust me when I say that reading further is worth it 😁.

LOVED IT!!

Our Hero, Mo Collins is still out on the Viva Ancora looking for a cure, peavies are evolving and there are children starting to go missing in the town! Super storylines kept me hooked to the end, and I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens!

Not for the faint hearted

This book contains lots of violence, gore, cannibalism, blood and guts. Has provocative language. All wrapped up in a comical tone This series has an interesting storyline and carries through each book in the series. Each book is full of action.

The narrator does a wonderful job giving each character their own unique voice. Pulling you into the story.

Although I enjoyed it, it’s not quite my cup of tea. Please listen to the sample before you get this book.

Good story

I have books 1-4 and 7 and out of these I do like book 5 and 6 the best. For me it was easier to follow the story line then what was in Book 1-4. Good series.

The best low-brow humor and zombie slaying gore!

The Still Alive series continues to be one of my favorite go-to books for gratuitous violence, lowbrow humor, and descriptions of unspeakable things I wish I could unread. I can't be sure, as I'm not certain which scenes of the book my brain has blocked from my memory to protect itself from the mental trauma, but Zombie Paradise Lost may have been the most violent and gruesome book of the series. In a good way. If you haven't started this series, you should really give it a shot. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. It's kind of like passing a car wreck on the highway- you know you shouldn't slow down and look and you tell yourself you won't, but then you find yourself staring anyway. But in a good way.

But seriously, this is a great series. The writing is well done, the plot is exciting and detailed, and most of the characters are deep and developed. Hidden under all the blood and gore, Javan Bonds has some talent as an author. The humor typically balances the darker aspects of the books, providing levity and enjoyment when it's needed. And it's just gotten better with the addition of the box set for the 5th and 6th books in the series (Zombie River Run & Zombie Paradise Lost).

Zombie River Run is the follow up for the first four books in the Still Alive series by Javan Bonds. It chronicles the continuing struggles and adventures of the crew of Viva Ancora and the survivors of Guntersville. I really can’t say enough good stuff about this entire series, I love its humor, its cast of characters, and the storyline. And as an Alabamian, I find the characters, their interactions, and their culture extremely relatable. I swear that I’ve met and know some of them. However, I think Zombie River Run suffers a bit in the storyline because of where it falls in the series as it's working to resolve a few loose ends from the first books and set things up for the next few. That means after the story arc was wrapped up in the first four books, Zombie River Run transitions us into what is sure to be a great second story arc. It's a bit slower than the previous books and doesn’t end with the same adrenaline rush of climax, but it still has some great scenes, excellent dialog, and fun culture references.

Zombie Paradise Lost is full of all things that make this series great but is also a "split book" that takes place at the same time as Zombie River Run and I'm still internally debating if I liked that. Many of the events from Zombie River Run are repeated in Zombie Paradise Lost, but described from a different perspective. It provides some additional insight into many of the events in the last book but also left me feeling a bit cheated on the plot and advancement of the story arc. And while I was disappointed Mo isn't a major character in Zombie Paradise Lost, I really enjoyed the fully developed story involving the investigation of the missing children -- the whole good versus evil element has been excellent.

S.W. Salzman's performance in this series continues to blow me away. I still can't believe that one narrator can create so many different, distinct voices. It really makes the book come alive and significantly adds to Bonds' already well-developed characters. I’m definitely adding Salzman to my favorite narrator list and will be hunting down other books that he’s recorded.

Special thanks to Javan Bonds who provided me with this book at my request.
