I popped Starblade Rising on during a long drive, and before I knew it, I was gripping the wheel like I was piloting a starfighter. Sean Robins totally nails that mix of sharp banter, high stakes battles, and underdog grit. CJ Grey’s narration? Spot on brought every skirmish and wisecrack to life. It felt like I was right there in the cockpit. If you’re into military sci-fi with attitude, this one’s a total adrenaline rush.

Firefly Vibes with More Firepower

This audiobook gave me everything I’ve been craving since Firefly went off the air: a ragtag crew, fast-paced battles, political intrigue, and banter that cuts through the darkness. What makes it stand out is how seamlessly it blends humor with serious stakes—one moment you’re grinning at the wisecracking AI, and the next you’re holding your breath as dreadnoughts clash. The soundscape of CJ Grey’s narration heightens the immersion, and by the end, I felt like I was right there in the cockpit. Fans of space opera will not want to miss this launch into the Renegades of the Void series.

AWESOME!

The story is great, but it's the narrator's performance that brought the story to life in a way that exceeded all my expectations, which were pretty high already. The pacing, the emotion, the character voices—everything was spot on.

Explosive Space Opera Done Right

From the opening pages, Starblade Rising hooked me with its mix of nonstop action and sharp humor. Sean Robins has created a galaxy that feels vast and dangerous, yet still deeply human thanks to the quirky, lovable crew of misfits. Captain Xander Hawk isn’t your typical flawless hero—he’s stubborn, sarcastic, and sometimes reckless—but that makes his leadership and sacrifices all the more compelling. CJ Grey’s narration breathes energy into every scene, from tense standoffs to laugh-out-loud banter. This is the kind of story that makes you stay up too late because you just can’t pause it.

This story takes listeners through a whole lot of emotions from the start right through until the end. The characters are entertaining and I enjoyed their tale.

Unique Space Adventure!

This is the first book in a new Space Opera Adventure, Renegades of the Void. Captain Xander hawk hears a distress call and comes face to face with the most nightmarish monstrosity called the Malice Ascendant. It's designed for planetary annihilation and it has him in its crosshairs. This contains magnificent battles with unique and snarky characters, but what makes this story special for me are the frequent pop culture references that add to the enjoyment. There are also some essential truths the author provides: "Principles are all we have when everything else is stripped away. They define us and make us who we are."
The narration is exceedingly well done by C J Grey. His clear, dynamic, well-modulated voice perfectly portrayed the characters, bringing them to life and giving each their own voice and personality.

Action-Packed but a Little Overcrowded

The battles in Starblade Rising are some of the most thrilling I’ve heard in an audiobook, and the humor kept me laughing throughout. That said, there were a few moments where the sheer number of plot threads and characters felt a little overwhelming. Still, the story delivers a strong punch, and Captain Hawk is a character worth following into battle. The narration is top-notch and makes even the denser parts flow smoothly. A strong start to what I hope becomes an epic series.

Military Sci-fi adventure

Starblade Rising by Sean Robins is a fantastic military Sci-fi adventure. C. J. Grey did a wonderful job with the narration. The story is entertaining, interesting, engaging, funny, fast paced, humorous, emotional, thrilling, page turner, and more. I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Highly recommend

Fun but Sometimes Too Chaotic

There’s no denying this book has energy to spare. The action is nearly constant, the dialogue is quick and witty, and the characters are fun. But at times, it felt like too much all at once—big explosions, betrayals, politics, and nonstop quips, which made it a little hard to fully invest in the stakes. It’s still entertaining, and CJ Grey’s narration does an excellent job keeping it lively, but I think I would have enjoyed it more with a bit more breathing room between the chaos.
