A favorite

Definitely one of my very favorite magical realism books! My third reading. I definitely recommend.

It touches a part of your soul

This has been the best book to date from this wonderful author. It touches a part of your soul and leaves you smiling . I can’t say enough how this was exactly the book I needed to hear at this point of my life. It gives you a taste of hope that lingers on your tongue long after the story is over.Can’t say enough good things about this story!

Memorable and insightful

Beautiful story wrapped up in a mythic fantasy wrapping. I will return to this world.

Probably my favourite book of all time

I must've read this book a dozen times and this year with winter closing in and hot tea and video game weather coming on, nothing is bettee than resting my eyes while someone tells me this story all over again.

Absolutely magical!

This has always been my favorite book by Charles deLint. I’ve bought so man copies over the years because I lend my book out and it never comes back. I’m thrilled the audio is available now. I really enjoyed listening to the narrators voice. Very calming and she did the different characters wonderfully. I highly recommend this author, he was writing urban fantasy before it was even a “thing”

Not Just About Magic

This is not just a book about magic. It *is* magic.
Perfectly balanced with amazing characters, I would call it the best of his books I have experienced to date (maybe 8-10). But truth be told, his characters have always enchanted me, and I would lessen any of them by lifting this novel above the rest.
I cannot recommend it highly enough, and look forward to many revisits with appropriate time in between.

The Crow Girls

Charles de Lint has been one of my favorite authors since adolescence. Now as a professional artist i love listening to his work while i paint. As i was finishing up Someplace to be Flying, i put the finishing touches on my newest piece of The Crow Girls, complete with a bag of glowing cosmic jelly beans! Thank you so much for such an amazing story…it feels like a companion to Trader, another fantastic tale that kept me company in my studio!

A good Samaritan gets into trouble

Charles de Lint’s Someplace to be Flying is a standalone novel from his Newford series. This tale has an avian flavor. A photojournalist is on the hunt for ‘animal’ people rumored to be in and around the Newford area. She runs into trouble and is saved by Hank who drives a taxi in the seedier part of town. They end up in the crosshairs of some dangerous and bizarre individuals trying to preserve a secret.

De Lint presents a corvid or crow mythology with a Native American angle. The narration is good with decent character distinction and smooth pacing.
