Acerca de esta escucha
As you age, you may find yourself worrying about your memory. Where did I put those car keys? What time was my appointment? What was her name again? With more than 41 million Americans over the age of 65 in the United States, the question becomes how much (or, perhaps, what type) of memory loss is to be expected as one gets older and what should trigger a visit to the doctor.
Seven Steps to Managing Your Memory addresses these key concerns and more, such as:
- What are the signs that suggest your memory problems are more than just part of normal aging?
- Is it normal to have concerns about your memory?
- What are the markers of mild cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer's, and other neurodegenerative diseases?
- How should you convey your memory concerns to your doctor?
- What can your doctor do to evaluate your memory?
- Which healthcare professional(s) should you see?
- What medicines, alternative therapies, diets, and exercises are available to improve your memory?
- Can crossword puzzles, computer brain-training games, memory aids, and strategies help strengthen your memory?
- What other resources are available when dealing with memory loss?
Seven Steps to Managing Your Memory is accessible yet comprehensive, featuring clinical vignettes and character-based stories that provide real-life examples of how to successfully manage age-related memory loss.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Two-thirds of us have experienced at least one adverse childhood experience, or ACE, such as abuse, neglect, parental substance dependence, or mental illness. Even though these events may have occurred long ago, they have the power to haunt us long into adulthood, and now we have found that they may even contribute to lifelong illness. Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, the founder/CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness and recipient of the Arnold P. In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated.

Historia
Have you wondered why some 60-year-olds look and feel like 40-year-olds and why some 40-year-olds look and feel like 60-year-olds? While many factors contribute to aging and illness, Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn discovered a biological indicator called telomerase, the enzyme that replenishes telomeres, which protect our genetic heritage. Dr. Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel's research shows that the length and health of one's telomeres are a biological underpinning of the long-hypothesized mind-body connection.

Excellent
Superbly written book on memory issues that will affect all of us from normal aging to mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, primary progressive aphasia, normal pressure hydrocephalus, primary progressive aphasia and effect of strokes on the brain. It is written at a straight forward high school level for the lay public. I highly recommend this book to people who want to learn about these issues, to family members and people wondering if they are having memory questions of themselves. It is the best book I’ve come across on this subject in recent years. Frank J Rubino MD
