Acerca de esta escucha
"The narration by Marisa Calin is once again spot on perfection from intonation, to pronunciation to accents she gets and A+ and her portrayal of Xanthe is an absolute treasure." (The Reading Frenzy)
The second audiobook in a bewitching series "brimming with charm and charisma" that will make "fans of Outlander rejoice!" (Woman's World Magazine)
New York Times best-selling author Paula Brackston returns to the Found Things series with Secrets of the Chocolate House.
After her adventures in the 17th century, Xanthe does her best to settle back into the rhythm of life in Marlborough. She tells herself she must forget about Samuel and leave him in the past where he belongs. With the help of her new friends, she does her best to move on, focusing instead on the success of her and Flora’s antique shop.
But there are still things waiting to be found, still injustices needing to be put right, still voices whispering to Xanthe from long ago about secrets wanting to be shared.
While looking for new stock for the shop, Xanthe hears the song of a copper chocolate pot. Soon after, she has an upsetting vision of Samuel in great danger, compelling her to make another journey to the past.
This time, she'll meet her most dangerous adversary. This time, her ability to travel to the past will be tested. This time, she will discover her true destiny. Will that destiny allow her to return home? And will she be able to save Samuel when his own fate seems to be sealed?

Here, she hopes that the wild beauty will inspire her to produce her best art and will give her the baby they have longed for.

Historia
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Historia
Katarina Ashowan was not made for courtly life. Sure, her father is the famous house witch of Daxaria so she was raised among majestic castles, proper manners, and royal expectations. But Kat is also a mutated witch whose power aligns predominantly with fire. She’s more comfortable riding horses or learning to fight than she is making polite conversation and wearing fancy dresses. Which is why her upcoming assignment—serving her best friend, Alina, the soon-to-be crowned Troivackian queen—is anything but ideal.

When Finlay Ashowan joins the staff of the King and Queen of Daxaria, he’s an enigma. No one knows where he comes from or how he came to be where he is, which suits Fin just fine. He’s satisfied simply serving as the royal cook, keeping nosy passersby out of his kitchen, and concocting some truly uncanny meals. But Fin’s secret identity doesn’t stay hidden for long. After all, it’s not every day a house witch and his kitten familiar, Kraken, take to meddling in imperial affairs.

She and her husband, Dan, have given up their city life and moved to Blaencwm, an ancient longhouse high in the hills. Here, she hopes that the wild beauty will inspire her to produce her best art and will give her the baby they have longed for.

Librarian Sylvia Ashe knows nothing about her past, having grown up without a father and a mother who refused to discuss him. When she stumbles upon a diary that suggests she's descended from magicians, she's skeptical. After all, magicians are special, and she's just an ordinary woman who loves books. She seeks answers from a member of the most prominent family of magicians, but she quickly learns that finding the truth won't be easy, especially when he turns out to be as artless as her, and more compelling and dangerous than books.

As Good as the First
I love a good time-travel story and this is exactly that. The last hour of the book dragged a little for me as it did little to advance the story and was basically just a set-up for the next book (and a pretty obvious one at that). But it does leave me wanting more so I'll happily continue the series!

Loved it!
Marisa Calin really is one of the best narrators I've listened to!! I enjoyed the second book as much as the first (although, I have to confess, I wish there was a little more romance). Brackston's fine details of 17th century clothing, food and antiques keeps me intrigued and wanting to hear more!

Spinners
I liked the development of the "spinning " talent. I was satisfied with the love interests. I wish she wouldn't lie so much to her mother: maybe the mother is a spinner too. I look forward to the next book.

Great book. I liked it as much as the first one!
This is such an interesting series in that it smoothly combines so many aspects of several people’s lives into an easy to read, intriguing story. It keeps your interest without any dull areas where minds might wander. I looked forward to every minute of it and finished it in record time. I think the narrator is very good and easy to listen to either on Echo or earbuds. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

A Trip Back in Time
I love the way she writes in vivid in depth descriptions. The imaginative beings that read and listen to these books, their minds are just humming when we have to stop or put down our books. In all ways I look forward to the next trip of Xanthe….
