Resumen del Editor

My name is Elizabeth Anne Hawksmith, and my age is 384 years. Each new settlement asks for a new journal, and so this Book of Shadows begins.…

In the spring of 1628, the Witchfinder of Wessex finds himself a true Witch. As Bess Hawksmith watches her mother swing from the Hanging Tree she knows that only one man can save her from the same fate at the hands of the panicked mob: the Warlock Gideon Masters, and his Book of Shadows. Secluded at his cottage in the woods, Gideon instructs Bess in the Craft, awakening formidable powers she didn’t know she had and making her immortal. She couldn't have foreseen that even now, centuries later, he would be hunting her across time, determined to claim payment for saving her life.

In present-day England, Elizabeth has built a quiet life for herself, tending her garden and selling herbs and oils at the local farmers' market. But her solitude abruptly ends when a teenage girl called Tegan starts hanging around. Against her better judgment, Elizabeth begins teaching Tegan the ways of the Hedge Witch, in the process awakening memories - and demons - long thought forgotten.

Part historical romance, part modern fantasy, The Witch’s Daughter is a fresh, compelling take on the magical, yet dangerous world of Witches. Listeners will long remember the fiercely independent heroine who survives plagues, wars, and the heartbreak that comes with immortality to remain true to herself, and protect the protégé she comes to love.

Glad I stayed with it.

I can't tell you how many times I almost gave up on this book due to it's slow dragging start. Once the author picks up gears it makes for such an interesting story.

Disappointment

Would you try another book from Paula Brackston and/or Marisa Calin?

No - at this point I think that will end my experience with either. I found myself zooming out several times during the read, but still it wasn't hard to follow - very repetitious.

Has The Witch's Daughter turned you off from other books in this genre?

If the story line is going to be as teenagy as this, then yes. It failed to describe a believable universe and personalities. Lots of other fantasy books covering the craft and other mythology seems to work better on so many other levels.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The audio was easily understood - good voice. But it was almost made child-like at times, making the voice change for each character may work at times - but not this time.

Could you see The Witch's Daughter being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

needed a bit more.

I liked the story but it was predictable. I really couldn't understand why Bess never changed her last name if she was always on the run. did I miss something? the narrator has a pleasant voice but the male characters all sound the same.

overall, I the book was entertaining and I will continue with series. hopefully the story and the narrator will improve.

Wasn't sure what to expect....

I have never read or listened to anything by Paula Brackston but I must say that I will now add her to my list of authors to read. I really enjoyed this story. I was listening to this book at work and found that I would get annoyed when I would have to pause the story to answer a call or leave my office.
The narrator did a wonderful job with the characters and kept it entertaining.

Exhilarating twists, thrilling characterization

I loved the characters, even the young and impetuous Tiegen. The action is palpable and unexpected at times.

Rambled

overall it was good but there were actually times I thought "come on already". As a Wiccan, I felt is was pretty spot on about the healing, but the demons are of course made up.

Meh.

The plot is a bit predictable but it was read well. Exceedingly average as far a books go.

Enjoyable, but not for those with Misophonia

Well written, though as a person who loves "boring" description this dragged at points even for me, but the story was interesting.
However fair warning, if you have ANY degree of Misophonia, don't bother. The narrator will make you want to throw your device through a window.
