Good story but a bit overly wordy

Book 6 is a decent story, but uses a lot of unnecessary descriptions & repetition of already described feelings, internal thoughts

I need more

This series has had me drawn in since the start of book 1. I love that the little kids are starting to participate in the story rather than just being spoke about. We’re given more characters to become invested in and more animals. I am immediately starting book 7 because I cannot get enough.

Old Life Gives Birth To New Life!

This book follows the story of a family coping with life in a post apocalyptic (EMP attack) world. Maybe this isn’t your favorite genre, but I bet you will LOVE this series anyway! This whole story thus far is realistic and great. It’s very PG in terms of romance, which may be a bit unrealistic, and the roles that people play are rather stereotypical, both of which seem a bit out of date; however, this COULD be a simple reaction to the reality they face- a world with constant threats. I find the additional aggressiveness of wildlife intriguing. The author’s creativity in creating drama is also engaging. Having said that, the human responses to trauma, fear, loss and more are not minimized. The author takes time to explore his character’s thoughts and coping strategies before jumping to the next chase. This is what makes the story great; that and the incredible narration! Highly recommended!

Enjoyable

I listened to the first 5 books as a set over a year ago and really enjoyed them. I wanted to continue the series but didn't feel that the cost per shorter book was worth it and was waiting for them to release another set. I was thrilled when I saw that they had added the series to the Audible subscriber library... er, thingy. And now that I've listened to the next few books in the series I'm glad I didn't purchase them individually. While they were enjoyable, I don't think they're THAT enjoyable, especially being on the shorter side.

This is where it starts down hill

I thoroughly enjoyed the first five books in the series and was genuinely excited to continue the journey. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, the writing became bogged down with excessive descriptions, repetitive emotional reflections, and an overabundance of internal monologue. By book seven, this issue became even more pronounced and started to detract from the overall experience.

I’m still curious about how the return trip unfolds, but I had to stop listening due to the constant rehashing and mental commentary. Maybe I’ll return to the series someday—once the frustration wears off.

If you’re considering reading the series, my advice is to stop at book five. It’s a solid and satisfying place to end.
