the battles were very detailed

Great storyline and characters were built really well. Battles were very in depth and really descriptive

Excellent Addition to the Series

Fantastic book, filled with highs and lows. Dark enough to scratch the grimdark fantasy itch, while still filled with hope and heart.

Great series

First half was a little slow but part 2 is a bloody fun time, waiting for book 3!

What a ride.

I love Peloquin's stories. The pace of this is break neck but it never loses focus. Relentless, nerve-wracking and yet heartwarming. I'm so excited to watch the Hunter's evolution. How will he hold onto his sanity?

Easter eggs from the previous books, plus the ongoing battle with the inner demon

It lies near and dear to my heart, as I've battled inner demons, the themes ring somewhat true , and I recognize what the hunter struggle with.

I like the series well enough

My critique is purely based off of my own personal sensibilities and interests. The first book was really good, but now into the next one, a trend has become super prominent to me. If there is a conceivable way the main character CAN be captured, he ALWAYS WILL be captured. Its almost like the author gets his rocks off by constantly having a guy be captured and having one or more assailants kick the living crap out of him. I have to kinda chuckle to myself because I precognitively guessed he would be captured a couple times and at a certain point its just kinda ridiculous and repetitive. Again, totally just my opinion, and who really cares. If youre reading this, stop, and read or listen to either this series and decide for yourself, or keep lookin.

inconsistent.

the story is quite good but it would be so much better if the author remembered what you wrote 5 minutes ago instead of contradicting himself constantly. 1 minute the MC has incredible capabilities in the next minute he's a whimpering little piece of shit. 1 minute he can sense his dagger even inside the chest and the next soon as it was put in the chest he's no longer connected with it. unnecessary trauma and weakness for no other reason than to make the next fight more improbable to overcome.
