The only thing in Colin Mulligan's life that makes sense is taking cars apart and putting them back together. In the auto shop where he works with his father and brothers, he tries to get through the day without having a panic attack or flying into a rage. Drinking helps. So does running and lifting weights until he can hardly stand. But none of it can change the fact that he's gay, a secret he has kept from everyone.
Rafael Guerrera has found ways to live with the past he's ashamed of. He's dedicated his life to social justice work and to helping youth who, like him, had very little growing up. He has no time for love. Hell, he barely has time for himself. Somehow, everything about miserable, self-destructive Colin cries out to him. But down that path lie the troubles Rafe has worked so hard to leave behind. And as their relationship intensifies, Rafe and Colin are forced to dredge up secrets that both men would prefer stay buried.

This is the first time I have gone out of my way to write a review of an audiobook, but this was just incredible beyond description. I'm almost torn about how to describe it, because it was like the narrator told this story to me, personally, in first person, and then other people appeared as the story went on, each character with his (or HER!) own voice. It almost felt at times as though the narrator (Spencer Goss) actually WAS Colin, a tortured, self-loathing guy who I hated after book one. It took me a while to even get this audiobook because I knew it was about Colin. But, my Lord...it took me about half a chapter to fall in love with Spencer's voice, and maybe until chapter 3 to actually start to love HIM (Colin)!
Colin is rescued from the deepest despair by a spectacular (and also tormented) hero, Raphael, whose peaceful, patient way with Colin was so sweet it got me emotional. I have been at a hotel, and I listened to it in the lobby and as I walked the grounds...but I found I had to go back to my room because I was literally in tears. And I am NOT a crier.
This audiobook wrung me dry and I almost listened to it straight through, falling asleep with it playing last night, and as soon as I woke up this morning I rewound back to way before I had drifted off.
I looked at a few other reviews and I'm glad to see I'm not alone in adoring this audiobook. But it felt like more than an audiobook. It felt like I stepped into an entirely different world for ten hours. Yes. Ten! And when I felt the book winding down, I so wished it would never end.
Roan Parrish is a wonderful writer, and God only knows what cloud Spencer Goss fell from, because he made this an epic journey that I will listen to again and again. I've already listened to one particular section (Colin and Rafe at a Beach House) numerous times.
If there were Academy Awards for Audiobooks, this one would deserve it!
No Exaggeration:The Best Audiobook I've Ever Heard

But my absolute favorite part of this audiobook is Spencer Goss. I loved his reading of the story. You could feel Colin's struggles through every word. The pauses, the stutters, the whispers and angry words were absolutely perfect. I searched Audible for every book that he has narrated and am so disappointed that there only two. I hope to see more in the future!
Spencer Goss should narrate every story

This book builds on characters introduced in the first book of the Middle of Somewhere series. It isn't necessary to read the first book, but I do recommend if you want to experience the full impact of Daniel and Colin's antagonistic sibling behavior. For me, this story had a pretty intense emotional impact, in part, because I am an older sibling. I think the author does an amazing job of showing the perils of trying to be a parent to younger siblings when the actual parent is struggling to cope.
This book is a romance, but it also shows the impact that finding love can have on all of your personal relationships.
I have read this book several times, and I decided to try the narration for a new experience. I am very glad that I did. Spencer Goss does a wonderful job of narrating this story, and I look forward to hearing more books with his soothing voice.
Great story. Great narration.

Would you listen to Out of Nowhere again? Why?
Yes, This was a great story, it gave the other side of the characters story to book 1. The main character, Colin, does wine a bit too much but it does not distract from the story. At time the author does take a bit too long to get to a point but again it does not distract. The one thing that does bother me is that the main character does cry a lot.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Life's Second Chance"a real tear jerker

Did you like the narrator?
I bought the first book as an audiobook and though the story is fantastic I was not fond of the narrator for that book. His voice was perfect for the main character but there was no change in tone to differentiate between one character and the other. So I was excited that this book had a different narrator and rightfully so, Spencer Gross is amazing and the voice he does for the main characters are perfect. You can clearly hear the difference between Collin and Rafe and you can hear the emotion and vulnerability in the voices, it was fantastic. (Though his version of Daniel's voice was not very good to me but that's because I loved Robert Nieman's version of Daniel).
Over all this book was great, narrator was almost perfect and the story was amazing.
Never thought I could love a character I hated so much

But after this story I like Colin better then Dan. Danial is kind of narcissistic, and self centered. Colin is mean, but he clearly has mental issues.
Wow
