Acerca de esta escucha

When a local man, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, goes missing, his parents have good reason to be concerned. Emily Willows is a friend of the family and says that she knows just the person to find him - and, as Summer Lane soon points out, the fact that this also fits in with Emily's plan to set up her very own detective agency is surely just a fortuitous coincidence.

But it isn't long before the former detective inspector finds herself on a train heading back to London, and back into situations that she thought she had left behind. Some old acquaintances are renewed, and some difficult memories must be confronted as Lane searches for the missing soldier and discovers the shocking truth about what happened to him five years earlier.

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre One-Way Tickets

Con calificación alta para:

The Audiobook's Storyline Is Praised For Its Engaging Nature, Complex Characters, Suspenseful Plot, Emotional Depth, And Thought-provoking Themes Revolving Around Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, The Aftermath Of War, Private Investigation, Crime's Impact On Families, And Moral Choices. However, Some Listeners Found The Pacing Slow, The Mystery Underdeveloped, The Resolution Weak, The Introspection Excessive, And Willows' Presence Minimal. Overall, The Book Explores Profound Subjects Through An Intriguing Narrative, Though It Has Certain Pacing And Plot Issues According To Some Reviews.

Excellent and engrossing

Better than the first in the series - characters are developed and the narrative unfolds with relaxed confidence.

Exhilarating story

I have always liked Grainger but only knew of his Lake Mysteries. I fell in love with this series and these wonen. The characters development is well rounded and the male character very vivid. And it is quite an adrenaline ride when it gets going. I couldn’t stop listening to

The plot

I’m hooked on this series. Too bad I can’t listen to Book 3 without spending money.

Thanks!!

Unusually for me I ordered this book immediately I finished listening to book one. Even more unusual is that I still want more. I enjoy the way the characters are portrayed, a quiet, almost unintentional way snippets of their character, looks and feelings are introduced so you have time to absorb the information. The settings are well researched and portrayed. Most importantly though, this book gives an accurate portrayal of post traumatic stress endured by soldiers returning from war and has given me a lot to think about in the guise of a cracking good novel.

Another Series to Savor from Grainger

Peter Grainger has once again created a character to follow and admire and a story that takes you to unexpected places worth experiencing. You need the plot so the people unfold but his clever plots can never trump his wonderfully woven characters. write faster, please!

Good story, performance, character & relationship developments

I like this author, this seriess and most everything about it except the unlikelyhood of the situations. If you are able to look past this, you will love the Lane books. Narration by Hanrietta Meire is spot on!

One of my favorite books

I love Peter Grainger's writing, from DC Smith to Kings Lake to Willows and Lane. My favorite is Willows and Lane, and my favorite of these is One-Way Tickets. Engaging story, real, enjoyable characters, and beautifully written prose.

Decent Suspense

3.5 stars

The majority of this book is a relatively standard action/suspense novel. It's well-enough written, but nothing particularly special. But the denouement here is excellent, and elevates the story significantly.

Summer Lane is quite well written, with an expanding back story and a deep character who is quite sympathetic.

A few notes: Emily Willows is hardly present and likewise was not a significant character in the first volume. Perhaps this will change, but to this point in the series, it's the story of Summer Lane. And at least through this book, it would seem that the dangling bits from the first volume are not going to be followed up, which is definitely disappointing.

This series feels like it might become good, but through two volumes, it hasn't really reached its stride. I'm willing to give it more slack, because I've really liked other Peter Grainger books, so I will continue to read it. If you are not already a fan of Grainger's work, I'd recommend one of his other series first.
