Loved It!!!

I enjoyed every book in series one. I mourned the loss of DC and his crew. I was thrilled to learn the new series was really the next chapter, including traces of DC now and then. Gildart Jackson is fabulous. He gives each new character a unique voice. Perhaps the negative reviews are a result of the this book setting the scene of a new cast of characters. I enjoyed learning about the new officers, really looking forward to Book 3.

Over way too quickly!!

I absolutely love the King's Lake Central crew. Since we were first introduced to Smith back in beginning, I have continued to love them all more and more. This new book is no exception. Grainger has a knack for "showing" you the scene and letting it unfold as things move on. I never want these stories to end...yet I can't stop listening. So essentially, it is a bittersweet affair.
These stories aren't those that you are shown the suspects and work it out. You get to follow them as they go, examine clues and watch Waters inevitably fall for the pretty girl who is just peripheral enough to be ok for dating.
Just lovely. If you haven't read the DC Smith series I envy you - you get to experience it all from the beginning. Hopefully more in the series are on their way. I will read them all!!!

LOVE this series! Writing is excellent; I can “see” the characters. Plot very intriguing.

Fantastic in all ways

Have listened to all Peter Grainger books. This one may be one of my most memorable. Excellent and complex plot like no other! The new team without DC is very likable and I hope the author will gift his listeners to more about Kings Lake for years to come.

Clearly part of a bigger story

I have loved all of the books in this series beginning technically with the DC Smith series, which is the true start of it all. However, this one seemed to end more abruptly than the others, leaving the story somewhat incomplete. This may be simply because it is the first one I have listened to that doesn’t have another for me to get ahold of immediately, I need to wait for the next to be released. All of the books have felt as if they are clearly part of a big story and not stand alone novels. Some book series novels seem capable of standing alone when taken out of the series, not these books. You really need to read/listen to them all to appreciate them. They are amazing and I cannot wait for the next story.

the series continues to build

not quite as good as the previous books. I think I miss Smith as much as Peter Grainger does. I have faith that he will warm to his remaining characters in the coming books

Good solid mystery

The pacing can be "medium" in these books (not high action), but i do enjoy them. Good characters, good stories.

I listened to this installment of the Kings Lake series. I have read/listened to all the DC Smith books which ended. I was lucky to find the Kings Lake series which is the same world as D C Smith.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I think reading all the other books made this one a lot more interesting.

Looking forward to the next one

Good till the ending!

I really enjoyed this book. interesting characters, good story and narration. however, the ending arrived and it was like a door being slammed shut on the last word.
