Susan Wiles is driving home from open house on a winding mountain road, late at night. Nearly falling asleep at the wheel, she is startled when she hears something hit her Prius from out of nowhere. It's a dead woman lying in the road! Susan panics. Did she hit this pedestrian?
After calling for help, she notices that the body lying dead on the road is her school's assistant principal, Melissa Chadwick. Her detective daughter arrives at the scene and sensing something isn't right, discourages her mother from admitting guilt. Is this an accident, or a murder? Was Melissa killed by a coworker, someone with a grudge against her husband's recently relocated business, or someone very close to her heart?
Feeling responsible, retired teacher Susan Wiles puts on her sleuthing cap, determined to find the answer. Will she find the truth, or will tragedy once again strike the cozy New York town of Westbrook?

Susan’s mother Audrey needs to wake up and smell the coffee. I understand it’s easy to be dominated when you have low self-esteem but she needs to grow a backbone.
I would never want to be in Susan’s position of hitting a person with her car. I can only imagine the grief she was going through. Melissa isn’t the only death in the book and there are plenty of other bad deals going on in their town. There were plenty of red herrings to keep the reader guessing.
Other than shaking at my head whenever Susan was about to do something stupid, I enjoyed the mystery. My hats off to Lynnette, Jackson, and Mike for making this book not a sadder tragedy.
I listened to this book while exercising. The narrator did a wonderful job.
Is the new company to blame for the crime?
