A surprisingly wonderful tale

I will say this was such a surprise for who would have thought Lydia Wickham would have told a wonderful story of her married life.
Don’t miss this!
The cast who performed the characters made this story wonderful and the music and background noises in scenes even better.

A Great Read

This was a great short story. Listen to the end. Regret, fear, anger, disgust and love all in one. A story of transformation and 2nd chances

Great story!

If you enjoyed pride and prejudice please read this! It gives a new perspective to Lydia.

Lydia joins Circe in the trenches.

I am not an Austen devotee. It's long bothered me that utterly useless Mr Bennet is unquestionably benign while Mrs Bennet is reduced to awkward desperation to provide for her daughters' futures. Elizabeth and Jane... I can't even. But I had never given much thought to Lydia.

Sarah Page's Mrs Wickham is as worthy a defense of Lydia, and women, as Madeline Miller's Circe.

The sound effects are too loud to listen in a vehicle and the music is so loud its painful to listen with headphones.

Listen anyway. The voice acting is very good and the story is inspiring.

Why does Audible give the male narrator top billing, when the publisher, Amazon and the alphabet put Jessie Buckley on top ?

Surprising!

Well, that is not what I expected. Like many Jane Austen fans, I have read Pride and Prejudice multiple times. Also like many fans, I found Lydia to be tedious and annoying. This presentation has completely changed my mind. Stop. Read that again. One listen of a 2 hour audiobook changed an opinion I have held for decades. That, Ms. Sarah Page, is power. Well done, you.

Lydia sees where her recklessness has landed her. She performs an inventory on her life and takes action to improve herself. She still isn’t perfect, but she is real; she is a whole person, and one that I would gladly be friends with.

Different take on a classic

This story was definitely different. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great so somewhere between there. I don’t feel like I wasted my time so that’s a plus.

New head cannon

This is now how the story ends for Lydia in my head. I loved this story. I only took one star off of the performance because, why did they keep using country/western music?
