I'm Evan Cook - billionaire tech entrepreneur and widower. Professionally, I've got it all. But since my wife died, my personal life has fallen apart. Remarrying seems like the obvious answer, so I place an ad. I'm not asking for much.

The ideal woman only needs to be smart, organized, pretty, and helpful - both in and out of bed - without expecting romance. I never thought to look right in front of me...but it turns out that Nia Wright, my sexy, sassy assistant, just might be the perfect candidate.

After an unexpectedly hot night together, I'm ready to stop interviewing strangers and simply marry her. On paper, she ticks every box on my list. Best of all, she's far too sensible to fall for me. I didn't see the flaw in my logic until it was too late. I never thought I'd lose my heart for the first time. And I definitely never imagined Nia could consume me. But she's harboring a secret that could tear us apart. Can I prove I more than crave her before it's too late?

Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed this mixture of cultural differences and detachment realization from growing up in various foster homes. Their mutual lack of a traditional family gives them something they both can understand but the true understanding comes with discovering what love is. The only thing I think would have been better is to have dual narrators.

I love this book. The narrator has a great voice. I wish the ending had a prologue.

I very much enjoyed this book.

So far, this is one of my favorite BWWM books. The story flowed well, and all of the characters were interesting. I can't wait to go back and read the other books in this series, as I've read the first and this one only.

Loved this couple, Loved this story!

A little predictable in the story line, but still enjoyable, wish it could have lasted longer.

Sad it’s over.

I liked the story a lot but I really love the way the narrator switched up his voices for the characters. It was really good

I loved this book. It’s hard to put into words what I felt listening to it. It was very relatable almost as if someone stepped into my head and pulled out so many thoughts I’ve had. Some would find it unrealistic but for the hopeless romantics and people that have experienced true love it’s perfect! I didn’t enjoy the male voice for the woman but I loved that they were an interracial couple and questions or insecurities that come with being in relationship like that were address without making it a big part of the story. I enjoyed being able to understand a man with a thought process like that because men do not process emotions the same way a woman does, that perspective was appreciated. Overall I enjoyed it and would have liked the book to continue just a little longer into the future.

My dreams put into a story

I walked in with such low expectations for this one. Normally reviews don't influence me but the reviews from Black women had me concerned as a Black woman myself. I haven't read any of the other books in the series so I really can't compare this heroine to the other "angelic" white ones so my review is solely based off my own feelings.

So starting off with the bad. You can pretty much tell a white author wrote this. The heroine is sort of fetishized and over sexualized. I lost count of how many cringe af ways the hero Evan described her skin color and body. I almost put the book down when he was surprised her snatch was pink inside. What the h e double hockey sticks was he expecting? For her cave to be pure black inside? It was almost laughable and made me feel so alienated as a Black reader. Y'all really out hear thinking our bodies are freak shows!!!

Anyways, the hero and heroine did not wow me. He was so emotionally unattached and the man compared Nia to his wife so much that it was a turn off. If it wasn't for the subplots and the twist at the end, I would've been bored out of my mind! But the overall read was enjoyable once I got to the end but I'm almost certain I'd never pick up a romance where she writes a Black woman again. Sorry, not sorry.

Enjoyed more than I thought I would

I liked this book - the 'swirlyl' factor (interracial) as well as the sassiness of the female lead. It took a while to get to the point but once it did, it was great.

It was good but....
