I absolutely loved this book and will recommend it to my students. After teaching to kill a mockingbird to middle schoolers for years, I’m eager to share this connection with my younger students this year. And Caitlin’s story and journal to closure and healing is beautiful. I cried and laughed at different moments. However, I did not like the audio. In fact, I sped it up to get through it faster. The voice of this reader was not the right fit for the protagonist. First, it sounded too old, grandmotherly with the twang. And also, the emphasis on many word in dialogue by Caitlin and Michael were not accurate for A) a child with Aspergers and B) a 1st grader. I hope it can be done with a vivid thar is a better fit for the narrator especially.

LOVE the story, not the voice.

This story not only deals with sorrow and sadness brought on by tragedy, but how a child with autism might think about sick trauma.

When I started reading this book, I had no idea it would take me on this wonderful trip into the mind of a girl like Caitlin. Born with Asperger's Syndrome, she is a high functioning, highly intelligient girl who develops her social skills and emotional perceptiveness throughout the book. Her drive is amazing and by the end of the journey, this spit-fire of a youngster with lots of confidence not only helps bring healing to her family, but to an entire community. I loved this book. Thanks, Ms. Erskine.
