Impactful scifi about racial & social justice

Science fiction in reality of systemic racism. Characters were strong, loving, real, tragic & powerful.

Hard but wonderful!

This book actually made me cry and whisper over and over, "No, don't, please don't." My only critique would be that because the story moves back and forth in time and explores various timelines, it can feel unfocused and rambling. The story, though, is wonderful and challenging. Tochi Onyebuchi takes your breath away as a narrator. Share this with younger family members and then talk about it.
