Performed by Reese Witherspoon

Number one New York Times best seller

Go Set a Watchman is such an important book, perhaps the most important novel on race to come out of the white South in decades." (New York Times)

A landmark novel by Harper Lee, set two decades after her beloved Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Twenty-six-year-old Jean Louise Finch - “Scout” - returns home to Maycomb, Alabama from New York City to visit her aging father, Atticus. Set against the backdrop of the civil rights tensions and political turmoil that were transforming the South, Jean Louise’s homecoming turns bittersweet when she learns disturbing truths about her close-knit family, the town, and the people dearest to her.

Memories from her childhood flood back, and her values and assumptions are thrown into doubt. Featuring many of the iconic characters from To Kill a Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman perfectly captures a young woman, and a world, in painful yet necessary transition out of the illusions of the past - a journey that can only be guided by one’s own conscience.

Written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman imparts a fuller, richer understanding and appreciation of the late Harper Lee. Here is an unforgettable novel of wisdom, humanity, passion, humor, and effortless precision - a profoundly affecting work of art that is both wonderfully evocative of another era and relevant to our own times.

It not only confirms the enduring brilliance of To Kill a Mockingbird, but also serves as its essential companion, adding depth, context, and new meaning to an American classic.

"All [characters] are portrayed by Witherspoon with perfect pitch and pacing, and the sure hand of a talented actress who is well aware of the region's racially fraught past." (AudioFile)

More than delighted!

Based on reviews, I was not expecting this be as good as To Kill a Mockingbird. The reviewers were wrong in my estimation. This book explains so much of the conflict the Southerners faced over civil rights. It was explained on a deeply human level. Reese Witherspoon is a real southerner and we were not subjected to a fake southern accent. I love this book!

Exceptional

Reese Witherspoon was the perfect voice for Jean Louise Finch. If there were Academy Awards for reading, she would win Best Voice in a novel.

There has been much fuss about Atticus Finch in other reviews. Please listen and make your own decisions about the moral fiber of Mr Finch.

This is a powerful novel. Thank you Harper Lee!

Wonderful!

Reese Witherspoon gives voice to the sequel to A great classic that makes you both nostalgic & thoughtful. So glad I got to hear this & that Harper Lee let it go into print. A realistic peek into small town rural southern life & mindsets before big changes in race relations started to happen there.

Harper Lee does it again

I didn't expect this book to be as good
as "Mockingbird", but I think it's better. Harper Lee gets a lot out in the open in "Watchman" and speaks to so many.

I can see how it was really better that "Mockingbird" come out first - over 50 years ago. We were ready for that then. A lot has happened since Harper Lee wrote "Watchman" and now we are ready for this one! As a white male who grew up in the 50's and 60's and now recently having seen so many things happening that are still changing the world we live in, this book spoke to me on a lot of levels.

This book makes one think about life, relationships, beliefs, and our inward reflection of conscience - not a bad thing!!

Another great book by Harper Lee!

A must for To Kill a Mockingbird fans

This was a powerful reflection of the love between father and daughter, and the realization of a girl's black and white view of the world....and I'm not talking about between races. This is a must for any fan of Scout Finch.

Difficult read

This book is very controversial. But also wonderfully poignant about the slow progression of people's ways in any deep set culture. Atticus broke my heart. And even Jean Louis seemed backwards in some passages but that's compared to my 2015 thinking. What a great sticky capture of race in the fifties. I appreciate the bravery of the author. Literature is meant to shake us. And this book shook me. Look how far we've come. Thank God for progress.

Wonderful to visit with Scout again!!

What a treat to listen to a continuation of one of my favorite books!! I was not disappointed. It is fitting that this story is being told now. God bless Scout for being colorblind. Narration is great!

Absolutely brilliant

This book I absolutely adored and related to so much. I personally felt so connected to it, it might just be an age thing but it put into words so perfectly how it feels to hit the fork in the road that forces you to drastically differ from your parents beliefs and how it's okay for you to cut your own path in life. It is a terrifying realization and I loved how it so plainly addressed the issue in a way that hits home so well. It's appropriate at a time like this where prejudice against people and their sexual orientation is so prevalent and this book helps to show how things have not changed as much as we would like to believe. This book is as timeless as mockingbird and it should be read over and over again.

Great Story

I am so grateful that this book made it out into the world. It gave me something to take with me and think about who I am and how I treat those who do not share my beliefs.

Mesmerizing!

It's amazing to me that Scout was so forward thinking. Today we are still dealing with civil liberties issues that Atticus predicted way back then. For students of diversity or racial reconciliation, this is a delicious return to the book that started the discussion so many decades ago. Loved it!
