The best-selling Extinction Cycle series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith first introduced listeners to a world ravaged by an engineered virus that turned men into monsters. Billions died, civilization collapsed, and the human race teetered on the brink of extinction. Humanity's only hope was not a cure, but another bioweapon. When deployed, it killed 90 percent of the infected, but the remaining 10 percent transformed into even more terrifying creatures called Variants.

Heroes have risen up to meet these abominations. Men like Master Sergeant Reed Beckham of Delta Force Team Ghost and Marine Corporal Joe Fitzpatrick. Women like Dr. Kate Lovato and firefighter Meg Pratt. Throughout the world, survivors band together to fight the evolving monsters in an effort to save humanity.

Now, for the first time ever, comes a collection of Extinction Cycle short stories that explore the human spirit and the fight for survival in the face of overwhelming odds from some of the leading voices in the post-apocalyptic genre.

Featured authors include:

  • Mark Tufo - "Extinction Trippin'"
  • Anthony Melchiorri - "Darkness Evolved"
  • Jeff Olah - "The Bone Collector"
  • Russell Blake - "Extinction Thailand"
  • Rachel Aukes - "The Fall of Fort Bragg"

Loved the new stories behind the scenes of those left behind, fighting, hiding and surviving the Variant threat. Stories include The Bone Collector, his past and how he became as well as how Kate and Big Horn's daughters were captured and recovered. Also the story behind Big Horn's wife and her demise.
With some very notable authors taking the reins of these short stories you will not be disappointed as each has continued the exact feel that NSS has placed in EC. Loved it and eagerly await other favorite authors to take up the challenge with more behind the scene stories.

Great Stories

Enjoyed this mix of writers giving side stories to already recognized work. Filled in some side ground for me.

Does a great job at fleshing out some of the miscellaneous characters of the main story. Especially ones that are little more than footnotes, but who's fates, or origins were left in the dark.

All these stories are awesome. I love the E-Cycle books. These stories bring it to another dimension. The authors in this collection capture the original story and even makes you feel for the variants.

Just as good as the Series itself. Props to all involved in helping us "Extinction Cycle Fans" get a good understanding of how the Extinction Cycle began

Fantastic look into how it played out

Darkness Evolved.
This is about Garcia and the Variant Hunters. It’s awesome. It feels as if the author picked up Garcia and Tank perfectly.

Extinction Thailand
First things first. My mom lived in Thailand for several years and she told me the culture and setting is done very well.
Now the story.
It starts with two rip roaring drunk soldiers finding their buddy ripped to shreds. The witnesses are detained and while meeting our two protagonists we discover the it appears only military men are being killed. Soon enough the Thai Inspector discovers it’s not a serial killer but a “white demon”. I love that this is less military more police work. It added to the enjoyment to see things unroll in a new perspective. So far my favorite.

The Bone Collector
I’ve heard a lot of hype about this story so I was eager/hesitant to dig in. I’m glad I did. It’s was interesting hearing his side of the story.

Extinction Trippin’
This one is strange, the basic premise is this. A couple of people take drugs and somehow end up in the Extinction Cycle. For a series grounded in “realism” this one is not my favorite. Wondering why it’s in the anthology. At least it’s short.

The Fall of Fort Bragg
This novella is awesome. Just listen. I don’t want to spoil anything.

All in all. 3/4. Extinction Thailand being my personal favorite. With Evolution and The Fall of Fort Bragg close seconds.

Well worth the money.

The narration often sounded more like whining instead of the emotions that were trying to be conveyed.
Some of the writers would be better served by doing a little research on military lingo.. ie, magazines, not clips. there is a huge difference.

Could have been better.
