Needed More Depth and Strategies

This book’s subtitle makes you think it will be a very action-oriented book about mindfulness—as in, it will give you many ideas for how to incorporate more mindfulness into your life, specifically to decrease stress and improve mental clarity. So, I was very disappointed at the start of this book that instead talked more about theory than practice, like what stress is, myths about mindfulness, and the benefits of mindfulness. If you've done much reading in the mindfulness space, you could probably just about chant back to him what he said about these topics! Get to the good stuff! When he actually got to the mindfulness strategies, he just skimmed over the surface of the possibilities, not spending much time on one sphere of life or particular use/practice of mindfulness. A shallow survey of mindfulness techniques. He tried to pull it together in the last chapter into an integrated whole, but it felt too little, too late. I felt that even, too, within the specific strategies section, the author went off-topic occasionally. Grrr. I much prefer nonfiction books that stick precisely to their topic, being true to both the title and the subtitle. (And on that note, I don’t really think mental clarity was discussed at all.) While I can't say for certain, of course, I'm wondering if this is an AI-assisted book because of the utter lack of the author’s presence. I didn't feel like I got much sense of his voice or his actual mindfulness practices, which are very important to me in a book like this. I also wasn't wild about the narrator. His voice had an odd whistling sound I found very distracting. Many excellent mindfulness books are on the market, and I recommend finding a better one.
