Resumen del Editor

Now a number one best seller!

Number one in Women's Divorce Fiction.

Number one in Women's Action and Adventure Fiction.

Number one in Women's Fantasy Fiction.

Over the hill, all outta ducks to give, and suddenly life is looking up...even if you're living with a ghost and fighting off werewolves.

Moving back to Savannah changed my life in all the best ways. New job. New friends. As far from my ex-husband as possible.

I didn’t count on the Shadow World intensifying its hold on my life.

Color me surprised, when a new job lands in my lap watching over a fairy ring. Worth ten times what I’d make anywhere else, it seems too good to be true. I take it anyway.

And that’s when things get weird.

Spells are cast on my friends that seems to make them lose their marbles.

I’ve got a Bigfoot baking in my kitchen.

And a skeleton is quickly becoming my go-to guy. Which is silly because the eye candy strutting around in front of me is drool worthy. (I’m looking at you, Crash. Really looking 0_0).

Nothing in Savannah is what it seems, and the magic and undercurrents of this city are pulling me onto a dangerous path.

But with a Fae Queen begging my help, and the darkness closing in, I can only do one thing.

Pop a couple Advil, and kick some serious ducking butt.

Love this!

Love this author and Love this book. The performance is spot on and fabulous as always with Lauren Fortgang. The story moves at a good pace, the characters are fully developed, the dialog is intelligent and engaging, This one takes place about a week after the first book, and you see growth in the characters already. This is a page turner, I was up listening to the wee hours of the morning playing the "one more chapter" game.

Being over 40 has never been so enjoyable

When reading this series there are a few things that are a constant from book 1. Breena O’Rylee is over 40, overweight, over himself (her ex-husband) and over trying to appease men. She does appreciate a good male physique and it can make her toes curl. That being said, she does take umbrage when she is referred to as “old” but makes many self-deprecating jokes about herself. I give her kudos in her self-confidence to be able to take care of herself.
She is stalked by the green-eyed monster (jealousy) when she sees certain men in the company of younger woman. She is still fun of snark, which she can express at the most inopportune time. Her devotion to her friends gets her into trouble which gets worst before better. She has rounded out her current posse (Robert the skeleton, Feish the river maid, and Eric the Bigfoot) with Kinkly, a fae and Suzy a former Hollows group member.
The story has laughs, fighting action, and a lot of situations that Breena just stumbles into.

Great Story, Writer isn't familiar with Savannah

I love the story, concept, and writing. The audio is well done and the writing excellent (I bought both kindle and audio).

Savannah, in my opinion, is a character. Every chance I get I head to Savannah, so I'm very familiar with her charms. There are details missing and wrong that would help in Savannah's personality.

I have never seen any tarot card readers. In April, Jasmine is what you smell, except when on River Street, which is urine and liquor-only at first. The stairs to get to River street are rememberable- steep, small. I have no idea where there is a hanging tree. I like it in the story though. Yes there is Spanish moss, but the Southern Oaks beauty takes you to a magically place - where are those descriptions?

There aren't many flowers in Forsyth, except around the fountain (red elephant ears) and this small enclosed garden area.

From the items that should be added - SCAD, which has buildings all over the city. During the time the book is written, SCAD chalks up the sidewalks in front of the fountain.

And the Savannah River host barges filled with shipping crates six to seven stories. Hard to miss them. I love to watch them go by in the very fast currents (would never swim in it). You can hear these tug boats all over Savannah at all hours, which adds to the mystique.

Oh, one last thing, the ocean is thirty minutes away (driving). I have never smelt the sea breeze. I asked my husband, who lived in Savannah. He has never smelt the ocean on River Street either.

I love the story and will read more.

A wild ride in more ways than one!

Picks up pretty much right where the previous book left off so at least no confusion. I like the way she talks directly to the reader, No Ducks Given, to be sure! I’m not even 40 yet, but boy do I relate with the realistic-ness of the character portrayal. The aches and pains that increase with age, among other complaints, makes her all-the-more believable and alive. The variety of voices that Lauren Fortgang (the narrator) uses is fantastic and makes this series even more alive than just the story itself. My only complaint, as it were, is that the book ends right in the middle of an action that you want to know more about. I can’t get enough!

Ducking Amazing

Absolutely loved this story. Breena is growing and so is her made family. The Boy butter had me laughing so hard I cried. absolutely engrossing, with a bit of fun and adventure.

A ton of fun and very well done!

Series Info/Source: This is the 2nd book in the Forty Proof series. I got this as an audiobook from Audible.com.

Audiobook Quality (4/5): The narration for this audiobook is really well done and it’s a lot of fun to listen to. I would definitely recommend listening to this series on audiobook if you enjoy audiobooks.

Story (4/5): This was a fun addition to this series. This continues the storyline started in the first book as well as adding in a new shorter storyline. Breena is hired secretly by a Fae Queen to retrieve an important artifact, however this ends up tying into the dark magic ritual that Breena stopped in the first novel. Of course through all of this Breena is trying to get back her gma’s house and be a productive member of the Hollows group. It’s a fast-paced well done story with a lot of interwoven plotlines that come together nicely. There’s a good mix of mystery, action, romance, and fun paranormal creatures.

Characters (5/5): This is a primarily character driven story and the characterization in here is amazing. Breena is fun to read about but some of the side characters are even more entertaining and I pretty much love them all. I love Eric the gardening/baking Bigfoot, Crash the super gruff, yet sexy Fae blacksmith, and Breena’s gram too. We meet a lot of new characters that are all just as awesome in this book. I love how Mayer is building Breena a kind of pseudo-family full of quirky characters. Breena grows a lot in this book and is learning to let go of some bitterness too.

Setting (4/5): The Savannah, Georgia setting works well for this story and I really enjoy all the different types of paranormal/supernatural creatures in here. It’s a lot of fun and well done.

Writing/Drawing Style (4/5): I like all the different types of paranormal/supernatural creatures in here, enjoy the witty dialogue and humor, and really love a lot of the characters. This was a quick and entertaining read that was just flat out a ton of fun. I do get a bit sick of all the man-bashing, but I also feel like our heroine is growing some and becoming a bit less bitter. I enjoy reading a series that features an older heroine but again do think that some of the "old" jokes are a bit over the top. Despite these issues I enjoy this enough to keep reading it.

My Summary (4/5): Overall this is a very solid addition to this series and I had a ton of fun reading it. I love the format of a contained mystery with a solid broader storyline that goes across multiple books. There is a lot of action, a fun mystery, and some very cool magic and creatures. However, the high point of this series are the absolutely amazing characters...they are quirky, fun, engaging and just so much fun to read about. I definitely plan on continuing this series and would recommend it to those who enjoy a good fun light-hearted urban fantasy series. I will mention the downside to this series is the man-bashing and a bit too much complaining about age; however that wasn’t as prevalent in this book as it was in the first...this series is definitely targeted at middle aged women.

Ducking duck!

I enjoyed it a lot. I'm southern myself and understand having an older family member who instills a worry of using certain curse words. Although at times it felt silly for her to use duck instead of the harsher curse she meant I do understand the reason. I love how more is being shared about Robert and at the same time we are learning more about Breena it's not all thrown at us at once. I will continue to listen to this series.

I LOVE this series

Its really refreshing to listen to a book where the main character is a strong female that knows who she is and what she wants and doesn't let others dictate that. This is a fun, light and super interesting read with plenty of twist and suspense to keep you interested

I don't have any more ducks to give either.

I have been listening to the books for the second time because I just got book 5. Even though I'm on book 2 again I Laughed till I almost peed. These books appealed to me because I'm over 40 and 50 well ok 60. I just wish I could do magic. Oh well you can't have everything. This series is a go to if you need some laughs in your life. Thank you Shannon Mayer and Lauren Fortgang's performance is just icing on the cake. On to #3.
