Resumen del Editor

Ever sent a letter to the wrong person by mistake? I did, when I was eight years old, and then I was visited by the Lord of Hell himself. But there was no real mistake. Not then when I was just a kid, and not now that I’m a woman.

I wanted a puppy for Christmas. And a puppy is what I got. Only, Melkor, son of the Lord of Hell’s finest hellhound warrior, was given to me not as a gift, but as a guardian. And when Melkor goes missing, I’m given the only option a best friend has.

I fight fire with fire and become a woman possessed - a mortal woman, that is. He’s been my best friend and my guardian for almost my entire life. But now, as I travel to the underworld to save him, I realize he’s so much more.

Melkor says after me, "Hell is easy!"

I guess I’m about to find out.

I thought it was Awesome

I loved this book. I have told many people about the prologue, it will make you smile. The main characters are so awesome just for being themselves. They take on family, peers and others knowing the other has their back. This is a story about being the best friend you can be no matter what happens. They grow up together and get in trouble together and learn about life together.

Good, different paranormal coming-of-age thriller!

I found this the first book in the Melkor & Purity series to be very entertaining, smart, and creative. Although presenting a vision of Hell similar to that described by Dante, we meet a Lucifer he certainly never envisioned – he almost seems like a pretty decent guy. In fact, the story really begins when he tries to fulfill Purity Jane Anderson’s Christmas wish for a puppy but, as he sees something intriguing in the young girl, he hooks her up with a hellhound of approximately the same age level.

Purity and Melkor grow up together as friends with frequent play dates and I thought the characterizations of the two leads when children very amusing. Purity is a lively, mischievous child, a real handful for her very traditional parents, and Eric is the bratty little brother we all grew up with.

I liked how the author developed their characters as they aged. They expressed the same kind of moodiness, angst, and withdrawal from their families to become independent units pretty much the same as most teens display. Bullied at school for being overweight, Purity has lost some of her earlier sass and is burdened with low self-esteem. And when high school graduation arrives and their friendship has grown to more, both struggle with communicating their desire to leap friendship to love.

But there is more to their story, Purity is fated to become a hunter and Melkor is a hellhound and both are meant to protect, to stand between the horrors of Hell and this world. I look forward to reading more about Purity’s training to take up her destiny and Melkor taking his place in Lucifer’s hierarchy in the next books.

The narrator for the Audible edition of this book is Heather Murdock with Hot Ghost Productions and I thought she did a competent job giving voices to the various characters in the story with only a few mispronunciations. I recommend this book to readers that enjoy paranormal, coming-of-age stories.

Interesting

I had previously read Kim Faulks' s Series Hell is a Harem, but had not had a chance to read this one. When I saw it was on audible, I became excited because I could listen to it on my very long commute. I enjoyed the book. I like Purity. She is not the typical heroine and Melkor is her perfect match. The narrator does a great job of bringing these characters to life and I enjoyed this so much, that I am currently listening to book two.

Puppy love

We open with the annual influx of mail that Satan gets which was supposed to be for SANTA! Then he finds a letter that is actually for him. A young girl - Purity - who wants her own hell hound. Satan is entranced by her letter and goes to visit her. He sees her future and knows that she needs a hell hound. The two of them become best friends until Purity graduates from high school. At that time, she is ready to start the future Satan foresaw for her, but Melkor wants to keep her safe and protected. This leads to them fighting a lot and then suddenly the keys of hell are stolen. This universe with the mix of mortal and immortal is interesting and unique.

The narration for this is very good with distinctive voices for the different characters and a lovely growly voice for the various hounds.

Bottom line: A great way to spend an afternoon.

Melkor and Purity

Loved this story. You know it's going to be interesting when it starts with a very young Purity asking Satan for a puppy for Christmas. She receives Melkor, son of the Lord of Hell’s finest Hellhound warrior given not as a gift, but as a Guardian. Great start to the series. I enjoyed the narration. And also read the ebook.

Dear Satan...

This story has one of the most unexpected start I would have thought for a PNR. It is a most memorable start. It really set the pace for this story. I started to read/listen to this book since both characters were in another book that's connected to this world. I was intrigued with their characters so when I found they had their own series, thought I'd look into it. Wasn't aware it would be a new adult romance. Usually I don't read much new adult romance, not that I don't enjoy the few that I do. I just tend to find the characters too naive since they lack life experience. So of course some of that does affect this story and how it flows. I do find myself upset at the heroine at times but then I have to remind myself that she is young and lacks the experience to consider things through. I do like her attitude though and even though her weight (big girl here) was a hindrance in her mind, she still works hard to try and prove her worth in her journey to become what she wants to be. Overall, a good read and start to the series.

I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. All thoughts and opinion are my own.

Great listen!

The characters have amazing depth. The dynamics of both the story and the characters is well built. Great narrative as well. All around wonderful. Highly recommend.

Hellhounds are for loving

I loved this book! I recommend it for anyone who loves paranormal and of course, hellhounds. This was unique. I loved the letter to satan instead of Santa. And what a neat concept on the he’ll hound being in person with the hellhounds being on the inside. It’s explained better in the book. I can’t wait to read the rest. Wish I could say more, but that would spoil it.

The narration was so perfect! I couldn’t ask for more.

Purity has a special place in Lucifer's realm.

From the time Purity was 5 she caught Lucifer's attention. She wrote to him, not Santa, asking for a puppy. A hellhound. Melkor is a hound shifter, her age and became her friend for life. I thought it was ironic that her mom didn't mind the friendship as much as her younger brother. When things go bad in Hell she's determined to help Melkor fight the Soulless from invading Earth. This is an exciting read and one that I really liked.
