Everyone needs to love and be loved - even men. But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patriarchal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. In The Will to Change, bell hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a fundamental part of who they are - whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Taking from their own experiences as a gender-nonconforming artist, they show us that gender is a malleable and creative form of expression. The only limit is your imagination.

Lewis Howes grew up as an athlete. He was a two-sport All-American and went on to play football professionally. Howes then transferred his competitive nature from sports to business, building his podcast, The School of Greatness, into a global phenomenon. But his whole identity was built on misguided beliefs about what "masculinity" was: dangerous, false ideas learned from teammates and coaches in locker rooms and stereotypes in the media. Like so many men, Howes grew up to be angry, frustrated, and always chasing something that was never enough.

That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Interview: Justin Baldoni Undefines What It Means to Be 'Man Enough'
Resumen del Editor
A gripping, fearless exploration of masculinity
The effects of traditionally defined masculinity have become one of the most prevalent social issues of our time. In this engaging and provocative new book, beloved actor, director, and social activist Justin Baldoni reflects on his own struggles with masculinity. With insight and honesty, he explores a range of difficult, sometimes uncomfortable topics including strength and vulnerability, relationships and marriage, body image, sex and sexuality, racial justice, gender equality, and fatherhood.
Writing from experience, Justin invites us to move beyond the scripts we’ve learned since childhood and the roles we are expected to play. He challenges men to be brave enough to be vulnerable, to be strong enough to be sensitive, to be confident enough to listen. Encouraging men to dig deep within themselves, Justin helps us reimagine what it means to be man enough and in the process what it means to be human.

What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

Some of the most effective talk therapy is self-talk therapy - learning to connect positively with that internal voice that serves as your own personal GPS to guide you through life. Rabbi Shmuley teaches the reader to reconnect with the inner voice of conscience, the source of personal dreams and values, which has been so drowned out by the noise of a culture that emphasizes form over substance, career over calling, and consumption over conviction. Drawing on Rabbi Shmuley's extensive counseling experience, this book helps you defeat negative self-talk.

We congratulate ourselves when we resist the donut in the office breakroom. We celebrate our restraint when we hold back from sending an email in anger. We feel virtuous when we wake up at dawn to get a jump on the day. We put others’ needs ahead of our own and believe this makes us exemplary. In On Our Best Behavior, journalist Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses—often lauded as unselfish, distinctly feminine instincts—are actually ingrained in us by a culture that reaps the benefits, via an extraordinarily effective collection of mores known as the Seven Deadly Sins.

Boys, and men, are fine, right? Feminism doesn’t need to worry about them. However, around the time she heard an angry young man saying he was “boycotting” International Women’ Day because “It's easier to be a woman than a man these days,” she started to wonder: are unhappy boys, and men, also making unhappy women?

One of the Best books I’ve read in along time!
As I write this review it is from a very authentic place. I would like every man that I know how to read this book because I feel that it would help them all in such a way. I feel that women that have small boys should read this book because it would help them understand a portion of their son that they probably would never quite understand. I felt that this book touched on so many different intimate parts of life and it coming from a white male it’s something to be said however he did it in such an authentic way that it was a very relatable to all. It’s a very raw and giving story of life’s trials that very male has and very women thinks about. I’m happy that I so happen to have turned in the TV to watch “The Talk” and seeing on and hearing a glimpse of you speak about your book and not knowing who the hell you were and needing to find a good read .. and there it was. Thank you so much fir sharing so much of you to us, I will for ever know who you are. Thank you!

Honest and Heartfelt
I hope more than just the ladies show up for this read. ;) I read it as a woman to help me as I attempt to raise two beautiful boys after their mother passed away. As step-mom, I want everything for these two. I think that starts with me and my husband learning to accept ourselves as enough so we can love them better. Justin gives great commentary on this and much more. I appreciated the honesty found here more than anything. I've shared parts of the book with our 15 yr old and it was a great conversation starter.

Vulnerability at it's finest!
This book came at the best of times for me. I have been w my love for 27 years, more than half my lifetime. I decided I was done w his "shit", moved out. but we have a 12 year old daughter. so we are working on our relationship in a BIG WAY! we listened to this book together while we were apart. gave me a huge insight to a man's brain. cant even begin to yell u how helpful that is. it is weird because so much of it I knew but didn't know to its deepest depths. and I still might not know if Justin hadn't been so open and honest and vulnerable! I know how difficult that is and I praise him for that. and his wife for allowing him to tell so much of their story to help the rest of us. my man has finished the book as well and it helped him realize so Much about himself that even he did not know. this book has been the beginning of a beautiful reset for us. Thank you Justin and Emily for showing up in this world the way that you do!❤

A MUST-READ for men and women!
I want to thank you, Justin, for your vulnerability in sharing your heart with us. You discussed things that most men wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. My hope is that because you did, more men will be willing to do so as well. I learned so much about men and how y'all think and why you behave the way you do. I'm so grateful that you read this audiobook yourself. No one else could have done it justice.
