Good story

I didn’t realize this was a series of books so I read the Upper Room first. I’m on track now because I’m about to start the third one. I must admit I found this one more interesting. Some of it was really sad because of the horror some people were faced with even as young kids.

The Back story !

These Series are wonderfully written! You don’t have to wait for the climax each page builds and builds on top of each other, there are no slow parts !

what a ride!

This was a crazy story! Ruby was something else! Her story was a tragic one, filed with levity and sorrow at the same time. What a ride she went on in an effort to find herself and fill a void left behind by a childhood situation.

I love Mama Ruby

The crazy thing about this book is that my grandmother name was Mama Ruby and I was born in Shreveport! What a coincidence. Regardless I love the book a lot and I can't wait to read more by this author.

the whole plot

didn't like the male narrator over a female narrator. I think it would've been easier to feel the story if the characters sounded the way you imagine them

The book was amazing. However, I did not like the ending. Mama Ruby steals the baby and that's it. I was expecting more at the end. But Ms. Monroe, you are an amazing writer. ❤️

BOOK BUCKET LIST

after 30 years, I finally finally finished both books Mama Ruby and the upper room. I really enjoyed listening to both the prequel and the sequel.

I loved it! had a lot of funny parts, Mama Ruby wasn't the one to play with!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining with humor, drama and all kinds of twists and turns. The narrator is excellent This author has become one of my new faves. Every book has been great. Love it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Mama Ruby! I read The Upper Room years ago and the Mama Ruby character was insane. She was hilarious, over-bearing, controlling and a bit unbelievable. However, in this book, the listener is able to experience the development of Mama Ruby and better understand how she came to be "Mama Ruby". Readers of the Upper Room questioned how Mama Ruby was able to commit the unspeakable act that was central to the plot line. In this prequel, while the reader may not agree about the appropriateness of Mama Ruby's behavior in committing the unspeakable act, they are now able to understand why she did it.

What does Kevin R. Free bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Free's performance was flawless. I actually forgot that this book had only one person reading it. Well done!

The title is sufficient
