New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon, beloved for her immensely popular Outlander series, crafted this fast-paced tale of intrigue when asked to contribute to an anthology honoring the late, great Ellis Peters. Outlander supporting player Lord John Grey investigates the death of a red-haired man only to become mixed up in the affairs of Sir Francis Dashwood and his notorious Hellfire Club. And as Lord John digs further, his life becomes threatened.

An Exceptional Book in an Amazing Series!

The Outlander series has captured my attention like no other. It is intriguing, engaging, and well written. It is so easy to let go and see characters play out their stories in my mind. Jeff Woodman is the perfect narrator for this rich tapestry. His insightful interpretations of the characters leads to an immersive listening experience. Perfection! “AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY”

My least favorite so far

A short story, I know, but of all the Gabaldon books so far, this is my least favorite. Story ok, not great.

I would have given this 5 stars except

Except the story was way too short and disjointed. The whole time you're trying to figure out what was before. A bit disappointed.

Debauchery and Honor in 18th Century London

A historical short story, beautifully written and read. This is an interesting footnote for an important character, Lord John, in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. A biting class commentary.

Another Must Read...or Listen from Diana Gabaldon!

Loved it!! A slight departure from the "big books" of the Outlander series, but absolutely fabulous - just like Diana Gabaldon and Lord John himself!!

The drama goes on

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course! I tell my friends who love the Outlander series that they need to read/listen to this Lord John series so they can get all of the back stories that add so much to the main series. I also tell my friends to listen to the books for a fuller experience.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Goodness, yes! All of the books in these series have me caught up.

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is perfect for these characters and brought them to life. I respond much better and recall more when I hear something than if I try to read it, where I get too distracted and end up stopping.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nothing extreme- just my usual excitement

Any additional comments?

What a wonderful way to bridge the stories throughout Outlander and highlight the relationship of Lord John with Jamie Fraser.

A Great Mystery

I've never been able to get into Diana Gabaldon's Outlander, not being much historical romances, but I have to say that I enjoy the mysteries Gabaldon has created around Major Lord John Grey. This character is interesting for many reasons not the least of which is he is a gay man in 18th century England where they are even less welcoming of homosexuality than they are today. The mystery is engaging and well-read by Jeff Woodman. I've already read Gabaldon's follow-up to this short story, Lord John and the Private Matter, which was not as good as this story, but still worth reading. I look forward to further adventures with Lord John.
