Resumen del Editor

Do you dread small talk? Can’t seem to remember names? Does being told to smile more make you seethe? Yet do you long for deeper and more meaningful friendships?

Sarah Cooper’s Let’s Catch Up Soon: How I Won Friends and Influenced People Against My Will shares how to survive our newest life challenge: connecting with people face-to-face again.

In 2020, Cooper caught herself and the world off guard when her TikTok lip-synchs of President Trump’s COVID-19 press conferences went viral. Her video satires spoke volumes.

Now she has produced the perfect guidebook for post-pandemic interactions.

Though she didn’t plan that, either.

When first approached about reimagining Dale Carnegie’s granddaddy of business books, she couldn’t have been more thumbs down. As Cooper recalls, “Written in 1936, at a time when dealing with strangers in the professional world was a relatively new phenomenon, it lays out 30 principles for dealing with people. Principles such as smile, remember names, be genuinely interested, make people feel important, give compliments, don’t complain, and never argue, all in the hopes of getting people to like you. And to me, it all sounded like a bunch of manipulative BS. People pleasers know all these tricks all too well, Dale! So, my plan was to rip this Dale person apart.”

Before long Dale became an annoying voice in her head, propelling her to try things she never normally would, both personally and professionally. Through her lens as a woman, an immigrant, and an aspiring actress turned techie turned actress, Cooper realizes getting people to like you, the real you, will be impossible if you never take the time to figure out who you really are.

Written during the years 2019, 2020, and 2021, Let’s Catch Up Soon is, like the best comedy memoirs, both laugh-out-loud funny and emotionally disarming. Filled with astute commentary on the politics of meetings, the pain of mixers, and the things we wish we could remember but always forget, it’s also the perfect self-help manual for anyone looking to find new friends and build stronger connections in this post-COVID age.

“This little Dale Carnegie book project morphed into something I wasn’t planning or expecting. It changed when I changed, and then it changed me.” It may just do the same for you.

Love Sarah's heart and humor

I identified and related. Go Sarah go. Keep being Sarah. I appreciated how she channeled Dale Carnegie and conversed with him about the principles and found authentic relevance.

I learned so much

loved it, took me 2 days I didn't want to turn it off. as a socially stunted person too I really related! we are but for different reasons but on the outside we come off the same, aloof and snob, or scary. this really motivated me that I can change tho

An intriguing story with a comical tune😊

I love the personal stories of Sarah and her experiences, and with Sarah narrating her own book, her natural gift of being a comedienne truly shines!

almost great

Loved the enthusiasm and how you realized that nobody really cares about a lot of repercussions so keep hammering. You saw the true teachings of Dale Carnegie and it was great. I don't that you should talk about ex president Trump he did great for the country. Just because you don't like how he acts or his manners doesn't mean that he's racist or don't care about people. Like Dale says everyone is different and he knows how to o give tough love where is needed making people stronger by pushing them to want more and work harder. Care bears like Biden exist but mostly in Disney land or Hollywood.

I gave you almost great in order to cause an impact and for you to read this review.

Great job overall I'm a fan!

#transparent

Sarah (with an “h”) Cooper’s audiobook, Let’s Catch Up Soon, is cringe like you’ve never experienced. And trust me, you’ll want to experience it. Cooper doesn’t flinch as she speaks her truth and lays bare the good and bad of her imperfect humaneness for the world (or at least the world of audible subscribers) to learn from. Let’s Catch Up Soon is a unique and interesting approach to self-help, and one you should explore even if you don’t need help fixing yourself. Oh, if only the entire world could be this honest.

Funny as heck AND a deep think!

Like the author, I wasn't picking up what Dale was putting down so I expected a rompy Carnegie roast but was pleasantly surprised at the path Cooper took me down. I found Cooper's raw honesty touching and even a little alarming. I don't know if I could open myself up to that kind of scrutiny because I definitely did some judging...until I didn't. The magic, here, is that I came out of this with fresh perspective, loads of grace to hand out and a desire to examine relationships and my role in maintaining them.

I liked everything about this

Maybe because it wasn’t what I was expecting. I was expecting a funny read, which it was, but a story, which it wasn’t. Putting into practice Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is smartly clever. I could relate in every way with her challenges in making friends and how she achieved personal success.

I’ve never heard of Sarah Cooper before reading this but I will certainly look for her comedy in the future.

Must read for people pleasers (if that’s ok with you)

Creative structure, funny standup clips sprinkled throughout, and truly vulnerable stories shared.

Sarah sums up what happens when you get so used to fitting around other people’s preferences that you end up not knowing who you are. In other words, what it can be like to be a woman. I relate to this book so hard, it has me wondering…am I Sarah Cooper? Maybe we’re all Sarah Cooper.

As a narrator, she’s giving me Hugh Grant in About a Boy vibes and I love it!

Sarah's best work yet

I've been enjoying Sarah Cooper's comedy since before her first performance at the Crotchies. I think this book is her best yet. So vulnerable and funny, it was even better than what I expected.
