Resumen del Editor

After receiving a distressing letter from a friend, Lady Anne Addison wastes no time in traveling to Yorkshire to offer whatever help she can. She has no idea what she'll find there, but she certainly wasn't expecting to be met by tales of a werewolf terrorizing the area - nor the dead body she discovers upon arriving. Driven by curiosity and a keen intelligence, Lady Anne dismisses the notion of such a beast, but she's nonetheless drawn into the mysteries by the secrecy surrounding her friend and the infuriating yet enticing Lord Darkefell.

With a murderer on the loose and the supposed werewolf ravaging livestock and terrifying the locals, Lady Anne puts her reservations aside and joins forces with the seductive Darkefell to get to the bottom of things. And though his nearness is a tempting distraction, Lady Anne manages to uncover one clue after another, unraveling the mysteries and drawing ever closer to the killer, even while her true feelings for the enigmatic marquess elude her....

Enjoyable, Witty and engaging!

Very good story and very good Narrator! I really enjoyed every word of it and would strongly recommend the book and the narrator. The narrator gave this story a depth and understanding of the characters that one would not get from merely reading.

Very good

I liked this. It's slower paced than most modern fiction, characters taking too long to explain things or taking themselves too seriously, but about halfway through I picked up on the sense that the author has a great feeling for period dialog. This is reminiscent of novels written in the early Romantic Era. After I recongized that my appreciation ramped up a knotch, glad there are serveral more books in the series.

I feel this story would be good read with a hint of melodramatic tone. The dialog creates some of that but the narrator could bring that aspect to life. (She already does to an extent, good work IMO.) It's a Baroque thing, they were not bashful about showing emotion with their voice.

Thanks author and narrator, very nice!

Good story well performed.

This book has a very good story that is entertaining and and keeps the suspense moving alone. However, it has a long segment that is downright preachy about the evils of slavery. It went on and on adding nothing to the story and abusing the listener with drivel. Otherwise, I was very satisfied.

A mystery with a touch of romance

A little mystery mixed with a little bit of romance. A murder, a werewolf, a cat, and a romance how interesting. Then add a great narrator. This leaves me wanting more...on to book 2.

Review on Lady Anne book 1

Loved Lady Anne from the very first chapter. Toni is definitely proved to be her other half.
I can envision a long series featuring these 2 as they solve mysteries on all his various estates.
There is a need for a book on how Toni accomplishes finding his secretary’s sister.
So many ideas for future stories that I hope are to be written.

Pretty Good

This book kept my interest. I liked the heroine. She is intelligent, outspoken, and wealthy. She also did not allow the hero to seduce her, like all the other heroines do.

Intriguing mystery!

I had a really nice time with this audiobook. I have listened to this narrator before and enjoyed her work so I thought I would give this series a try. I thought that this was really good. I found that once I got started with this audiobook, I eagerly listened to it for hours at a time. I am glad that I took a chance with this one.

Lady Anne goes to visit a friend who is troubled. When she arrives in town, she is shocked when nobody is around to meet her and she is forced to walk from town to the estate. Her walk turns out to be a lot more exciting than she had hoped for when she hears what sounds like a wolf and trips over a dead body. When she finally makes it to her friend's home, she is met with not so welcoming ensemble.

I was captivated by this mystery. I was very curious about what had happened to the poor maid that Anne stumbled over on the way to the estate. It turns out there have been several women who have died recently and I was just as puzzled as Anne was as to what was going on. The possible werewolf was another interesting element that had me guessing. I thought that Anne turned out to be a very good sleuth and it was fun watching her piece everything together.

I liked the characters in this story. Anne was smart and rather bold. After her fiance's death years ago, she has decided not to wed and she has become a fiercely independent woman. Darkefell seemed to be her perfect match. He was used to being in charge but eventually decides to work with Anne to get to the bottom of the murders. I really liked Anne and Darkefell together and thought that they had fantastic chemistry.

Danielle Cohen did a fantastic job with the narration. I felt like she really was able to bring this story to life. There was a nice sized cast of characters in this story and I thought that she did a really good job with all of them. I really liked her accent and thought that it added to the charm of the story. She read the story at a very nice pace. She was able to add a lot of excitement to the story. I feel like I enjoyed the book a bit more due to her narration.

I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be a very well done story filled with great characters and a mystery that kept me guessing. I can't wait to get started on the second book in this delightful series!

I received a review copy of this audiobook from the narrator.

Disappointing

Usually I like historical mysteries - so this is the type of book that I would like. However, I found that I did not care for any of the characters - which, for me, is important to continue with a series. I found the MC Lady Anne to be mostly rude, although she did start to become more likeable towards the end. I never liked MC Lord Darkefell to be narcissistic, rude, and just unappealing. I did not get the attraction of Lady Anne to him at all - especially when she suspected he might have some involvement in the murder. Lady Anne's friend is a bit of a foolish woman - although, her behaviour may have been the norm in that time period. But, I did grow tired of other characters frequently belittling or lacking sympathy/understanding of her. Finally, this story ends with a cliffhanger, as it relates to the two MC in the story. Unfortunately, I do not care how it is resolved and I will not be continuing with this series.

The narrator did a very good job and helped me to get to the end of this book.

Lord Darkfell is NOT ROMANTIC

While Lady Anne is a great intelligent character, she is undermined by her attraction to Lord Darkfell who in the latter part of the book compares women to bonnets to justify why he can sleep with and then discard women of the underclass after he has seduced them. He continually disrespects, insults, and negs Lady Anne throughout the story and then can't understand why she won't marry him. His character made the book unreadable for me despite other good qualities and a good narrator. And the treatment of her friend Lydia in the novel is also terrible--sure she is written as a foolish woman, but she is surrounded by people who have no sympathy for her at all despite her only fault is that she was trained to be ornamental by her society. Darkfell is all Darcy before being told off and has none of the nuance of Austen's leading man. Darkfell never learns and never apologizes, but we as readers are meant to be drooling over him. The mystery was great, but the romanticizing of this kind of leading man belongs in the past.
