My favorite author does it again

This is another great book in the Astra academy series. The only knock I have is this one book you need to have read the others to really enjoy. She does a great job of summarizing but so much is dependent on the past books. Hopefully you have read them all like me and you can enjoy all the small Easter eggs and storylines coming together. If you haven’t experienced her work do it you won’t regret it. The main character has become my favorite fantasy character.

Different but not horrible

The narrator was ok at best and messed up some names but he wasn’t horrible. amazing story though as always.

Excellent story

The new narrator is awful, strange accents and pronunciations. The story is amazing as always.

DIFFERENT NARRATOR

Obviously the story is great like all frith chronicles books but omg I struggled with the reader. I tried to keep count of all the names he’s changed to prepare you. Ninny now sounds like “knee-knee”, Adelgis has a hard G, Volke Savan is hard Russian, every girl is a country bumpkin including Ashlyn, the most jarring I think was when Grey saw Professor Helmeth and he was describing her as beautiful and ethereal, but when she spoke to him, this 90-year-old woman’s wisened voice came out that sounded like she was about to make him cookies. Gnokvak sounds like a hardened gangster… it’s just a lot to assimilate to.

disappointing narrator

evening knowing that the narrator changed for this book, it was quote disappointing to find that there is such a large gap between the old and new narrator. new one has a very limited range and their performance brings the story down. only thing separating characters are accents rather than tones. listen to a sample before buying.

I have binged all prior books so I am obviously a fan of this series but this new narrator has made it a slog to get through. quite disappointing given how long this audible release was delayed. wish they waited longer instead of compromising with a less skilled narrator. will need to find an alternative to finish the series if they stick with the current guy
