King of Duels marks the passing of the torch from our beloved Andrea Parsneau to a new narrator. Erin Bennett, a Golden Voice narrator, will continue to bring the magic of The Wandering Inn to life.

The world is full of adventures, big and small.

From exploring the [Garden of Sanctuary] to the depths of the sea, there are countless fascinating discoveries to be made. Not just in the places people go, but in the things they create... or recreate from Earth. Chocolate, lifting weights, and alcohol all flow through The Wandering Inn with unexpected consequences at times.

However, there's also war, [Assassins], and scams that ruin or destroy lives. For every monster, there is an adventurer. The Stitch Witch may creep forward, and the King of Destruction continues his rampage across nations, but there will always be a champion who steps forward.

Featuring a foreword from Andrea Parsneau.

I will start this review by saying that I have been a fan of the Wandering Inn series since I stumbled across it with the first audiobook. Since then, I have devoured the other audiobooks and even gotten pretty far in the web novel. Andrea has done an amazing job bringing this story to life, and I know we will all miss her terribly. There is another review on here that explains the situation and the reason for the change in Narators. And as a first foray into the world, (Narator) Erin is doing a fine job! And I believe that as she gets used to the characters and their expressions, her naration will only improve. I think it's fine to miss Andrea, but I also think we should be thanking Erin for taking on the massive, and daunting, task of continuing this adventure.

A good start to the Narator transition!

1st let me say, im cant begin to fathom the difficulty of narrating a 39 hour book, let alone 1 that already has a fan base. That in mind, this IS NOT the Wandering Inn you've listened to over 200 plus hours of...

I binged the first 13 books, was enraptured by both the story and the life brought to it by Andrea's narration... unfortunately this is a massive let down from what I was expecting. thankfully I only used 1 credit, but it is going to be a struggle to finish 39 hours of this - as I'm only 2 hours in and felt the need to warn other listeners.

The narration is so vastly different it doesnt feel like the same story - feels kind of like a knock off fan fiction.

Why? the characters now feel flat. i struggle to distinguish who's speaking without the book telling me. previously every character had a unique voice, speech pattern, and personality. Now most characters feel the same.

I'll try to finish this, but its going to be a struggle and will likely be my last listen in this series.

Didnt realize how much Andrea carried this audiobook, but its clear that whatever the reason was to cause her to leave this series, is a major loss to the title.

Disappointed Unfortunately

I think it's partially a new narrator, but I felt like all the characters were different and I needed to get to know them all over again. Some of the new voices were so vastly different from the previous books, that it was rather startling. The characters with French accents all sounded the same to me as well. I also didn't like how much focus there was on sex in this book. The previous ones weren't like that. The entire book just felt off from the previous ones. Overall, I think this is a good place for me to bid farewell to this series.

Felt Like All New Characters

The story was…fine, I guess.

The narration feels disjointed and like Erin is out of breath. Nearly the entire book is read in 2–3 word bursts. The new narrator also shows a disappointing lack of continuity with the characters’ voices, speech patterns, and accents.

I doubt I’ll even finish this book, and I won’t be getting any others in the series. Sad — it had been one of my favorite series!

Perhaps I liked Andrea more than the Wandering Inn…

The narrator change is an adjustment. Everything sounds off at first, but as the story goes on I think the new narrator is finding the voices, with few exceptions(mostly the lower register voices). The book names are still killing me though. I'd rather it just be called The Wandering Inn: Book 16 instead of a name that only has a chapter of context and importance through the book. That being said, I enjoyed it a lot and may have to start reading to catch up on the story because I don't want to wait to listen. I'm afraid though that my imagination won't be able to do the story justice after listening to the first 16 books.

An adjustment, but worth it.
