Resumen del Editor

A murder from the past hides an even darker secret....

A boating accident has left one teenager dead and three others traumatized. Charleston attorney Leland Munroe is determined to prove his client wasn’t responsible, but prosecutor Patrick Ludlow will stop at nothing to keep his own son out of trouble. Even if it means sending an innocent person to jail….

But as he prepares his case, a desperate man approaches Leland about an injustice from the past. Eighteen years ago, Maria Guerrero was convicted of murdering Peggy Ludlow, Prosecutor Ludlow’s first wife. The evidence was stacked against her, but Leland is positive the woman was innocent. But if Maria didn’t kill Peggy, who did?

As both cases collide, Leland finds his own son in the crossfire. Now the small town lawyer must ask himself.… How far he will go to find justice? Is he willing to put both his career, and his freedom, on the line?

Two Cases to Follow with Very Sympathetic Clients

I've been enjoying this audiobook series about small-town lawyer Leland Monroe, who's returned to his small Southern hometown in disgrace after using the benefits of his office to protect his alcoholic wife, who is now deceased. In this particular book, we follow two cases. Both feature people for whom the scales of justice are weighted down. Both are at a substantial disadvantage, one socioeconomically and ethnically and the other because he’s the perfect fall guy, as it is unlikely the other surviving young man, the son of the circuit solicitor (the head of the local prosecutorial team), would pay for what happened that fatal night. Leland has to walk on tenterhooks with both cases, as he doesn't want to inflame Mr. Ludlow (the circuit solicitor) and make himself any more of a target than he already is because of his prior cases. With great care, he researched the old case where a Hispanic mother of five was convicted of murdering her boss, the circuit solicitor’s mother, and put away for life. The main case, so to speak, is about a horrible accident that took a promising young man's life, but it’s hard to pin the blame for a matter that is simply a tragic accident, not really the fault of the young people involved beyond doing stupid young people things like drinking and driving a boat after midnight. As in the other book I listened to—yes, I'm reading them out of order—I really enjoyed the courtroom scenes. As with the previous book I'd listened to, I wasn't wild about the narrator. He does a perfectly fine job voicing the male main character, Leland, but his voicings of the women, in particular, are atrocious and painful to listen to. I hope this author chooses another narrator for the next series of books if he's going to have female characters. The narrator doesn't even do that great of a job with the young men. He also gives somewhat weird, stereotypical accents for the older Southern gentleman.

Couldn’t stop listening

This book is the cherry on top of the sundae that is this series. Just enough plot twists to make it impossible to put down but not so many that it’s hard to follow. Great work!

Captivating!

This is the third book in the Small Town Lawyer Series. This is my favorite in the series. In each book, we follow Leland, a defense attorney, in his personal life, and his work-life. In this installment, he works on two interconnected cases. I liked the investigation, the mystery, and the twists and turns. The characters are well developed. The storyline is interesting and captivating. J J Hosenfeld did a great job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to more in the series. Okay with fiat

Story and content was okay but the narrator was horrible. The book would have been better served by different narrator.

Such A Great Series

I have really enjoyed this three book series and hope it’s going to continue! Leland is such a relatable character and I absolutely love his private investigator! It is so intriguing how he’ll have two or three cases going on, but yet it’s easy to follow. I also love to see how his son Noah is progressing, and was so alarmed at his mishap in this book, but it was so realistic in this day and time as to what happened. The narration is spot on, and I am anxiously waiting for book four.

Excellent Legal Thriller

Interpreting Guilt is the third book in this fantastic legal series featuring attorney Leland who fights for the innocence of several clients who have connections with a circuit solicitor. This well developed story has great characters, realistic courtroom drama, and is an excellent legal thriller. The audiobook is well narrated and definitely portrays the emotions of the characters.

Perry Mason & Matlock in One

Leland always finds the rub and solves the case. Here we are faced with an old case and at the same time very high profile case. but here is the eye opener.....in some strange form if you are paying attention you see that they ar very connected.

Lealanf anf Terry are in a fight not the life of the client but themselves cause soe doen want lealand to fix the screw up of the old case and nor do they want him solve the case he is currently working on...between his sons inobstusive demeanor and Terry' come on I ain nothing topay with atticute you find that everthing is not what it seems that strings being pulled are helping when the hiddens one theought they were hurting.

i love the voice of the narrator J J Hosenfeld. Although it can seem momotome but you have listen with the focus on the story and his uhhuh and yeas because clear indications that his mind in spninng. I am so looking for more Leland Monroe audiobooks.

Righting Wrongs

Leland is faced with multiple cases that have one thing in common - Prosecutor Ludlow. Leland’s two cases center around Prosecutor Ludlow and his family. They include a wrongful conviction from years before and the recent death of a teenager. In a tense, action-filled mystery thriller, Leland finds himself going toe to toe with the powerful Prosecutor Ludlow!

The author, Peter Kirkland keeps his audience captivated with the continuing saga of Leland Monroe. Kirkland keeps the continuity of Leland’s character with small reveals with each book – this one was the reveal of his wish and acknowledgment of a better vehicle. To me, this was a small insight into the professionalism of Leland starting to reawaken. I enjoy how Kirkland keeps Leland balanced with work and time for his older son. Very realistic relationship there.

The narrator, JJ Hosenfeld is an excellent voice actor as he slips on the role of Leland and others easily and with continuity. He does accents well and gives each character a distinct voice. He further enhances the story by interjecting the appropriate emotions and excitement, helping the listener feel connected. He speaks clearly, with energy and enthusiasm bringing not only the storyline to life but each of the characters.

A perfect mix of excellence in author and narrator! Highly recommend!
