Acerca de esta escucha

A former true crime reporter whose articles have appeared in the New York Times and other prestigious publications, Rick Mofina draws upon his wealth of knowledge to pen gripping crime dramas. In Desperation finds gritty journalist Jack Gannon reunited with his estranged sister Cora. But the circumstances are less than ideal. Cora’s daughter has been kidnapped and is now being held for five million dollars ransom. Time is running out, and as Gannon digs deeper into the case, it becomes clear that his sister is holding something back - a secret from her sordid past that could be the key to saving her daughter’s life.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The narrator is flat and speaks in a monotone in many places; in others, he is overly dramatic. He mispronounces Spanish which beomes intrusive.

What three words best describe Graham Rowat’s performance?

Poor story match.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nope

Narrator hurts story

I enjoyed this book far more than his previous book. The only negative was the frequent use of the name Jesus Christ. I found it detracted from the story and was unnecessary.

I thought there was unnecessary blasphemy.

I have spent endless hours infatuated with ability to spin these stories in to such compelling mysteries. Mr Mofina you are the best.

love all of Rick Mofina books

The book was great but not fantastic. Mofina is one of my favorite authors, but he has written better books..

Great

Cora was an extremely annoying character. The story was OK, but not my favorite from this author.

Book was well written, though could have done w/o the sister/mother - though guess ithat would have been hard to do. Had to fast forward everytime she opened her mouth - but I suppose there are people out there like her. Narrator did excellent job.

If could only shut the "loving" mother up -

In Desperation is another solid suspense on the Jack Gannon series. There are three books on this series. I found Vengeance Road, which is the first one to be spellbinding. I wasn't crazy about the second but this one is also very good.
Gannon hasn't seen his sister since she disappeared 20 years ago. He's looked for her periodically over the years but has pretty much resigned himself to the fact that she is dead. His parents died looking but never knowing what happened to her.
Now, out of the blue his sister has called him. He's a well known journalist and she's the one who pushed him to to journalism. She needs his help. Her daughter has been kidnapped and if she can't find the $5 million her boss has stolen from them they will kill her.
What a ride this turns out to be.
Graham Rowat does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The end of a 20 year search...

The story was ok, a little gory. The ending was pretty lame. The narrator was so annoying that I had a hard time listening to it.

The narrator.

this story is slow!!! With another edit and 20 percent of the book trimmed I think this would be a wonderful weekend listen. The mother of the kidnapped daughter was painful to experience as she went and moaned without showing any strength to save her daughter. Her brother on the other hand is good but the author keeps changing perspectives to lame characters. I'm stopping 3/4 way through.

story is dragged out

I've listened to the two first books about Jack Gannon, I liked them.

Both Jack and his sister do really crazy things in this book! Jack threatens a bad guy and is lucky to survive! Cora has been introduced as Jack's assistant but tells the bad guy who she is!

Lyle also does stupid things but I don't want to reveal them. I was going to listen to book two but after listening to this book I've changed my mind!

This book was just frustating!
