All of us lie from time to time; however, telling lies tends to be a daily routine for a compulsive liar. Dealing with a person who is a compulsive liar might be a very hard thing to do. A person suffering from compulsive lying disorder will always try to resort to lies, no matter what the situation is. For compulsive liars, lying just becomes a habit. In simple terms, lying tends to be second nature.

You may have tried to change your life many times, in big or small ways. You may have struggled with your habits, feelings, perceptions, with your behavior, relationships, job, diet, anything. You may have taken workshops and trainings, read books, and tried therapies. If all this hasn't worked, if you’re still somehow lost or stuck in your life, the problem may be this one persistent mistake. It causes most of our problems. It derails our lives in countless ways, leaves us repeating pointless or self-destructive habits, poisons relationships of all kinds, or prolongs misery.

As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

Does religion improve our honesty? Most of us think of ourselves as honest, but, in fact, we all cheat. From Washington to Wall Street, the classroom to the workplace, unethical behavior is everywhere. None of us is immune whether it's the white lie to head off trouble or padding our expense reports.

In Rewire, renowned psychotherapist Richard O’Connor, PhD, reveals why our bad habits die so hard. We are in the midst of a global mental health crisis, and mental illnesses are on the rise. But what causes mental illness? And why are mental health problems so hard to treat? Drawing on decades of research, Harvard psychiatrist Dr. Chris Palmer outlines a revolutionary new understanding that for the first time unites our existing knowledge about mental illness within a single framework: mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain. Brain Energy will transform the field of mental health, and the lives of countless people around the world.

The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview.

A belief in free will touches nearly everything that human beings value. My gratitude to the writer
I want to thank you for putting together this kind guide. I have been searching for helpful information on lying and everything I came across made me feel further diminished. Some writers and bloggers consider people like me to be narcissists, sociopaths and trained unfeeling manipulators whose only goal in life is to deceive everyone, make their lives a living hell and get what we want from them. Many advices that people should avoid us at all cost. You however, took the time to understand. For the first time I’ve read something that truly shined some light on my condition without judgement. You offered many different options to choose from so that I know where to start to find the help I need. You alone explained the shame, the low self esteem, the pain and loneliness that people like me live with and our inability based on a horrible lack of control and years of conditioning to censor what comes out of our mouth. I want to be truthful but I’ve lied for so many years-a half century to be exact-that I always slip back into my lies. I have been too ashamed to admit I have a problem to anyone until recently when I discussed it with my niece. It felt so liberating to have a candid conversation with no judgement. After that conversation I found your book. This book became the icing on the cake, your empathetic, and nonjudgmental approach has given me hope and direction so that I can seek the help I need. Thank You!

Text book
Truly, How To Stop Lying was like reading a psychology textbook during my freshman year in college. It was somewhat dry and banal and like college text books, painfully didactic. Most of what was shared and offered is common knowledge in the psychological and behavioral sciences in regards to compulsive/pathological lying. In essence, I am NOT lying when I declare that this Audible Book is not worth purchasing unless you are currently a Freshman at the local City College thirsty for pop psychology jargon to impress your Zoom Dates or IG Followers.

Good Source for Therapy Labels
If you are looking for techniques it’s not that great. Looking for a therapy for someone I love so it was helpful in siting the types of therapy available. I always prefer books with peer reviewed research but for under $3 not bad.

shorter than I had expected. But a good start
I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I am a 43 yo working class man who is trying to save my relationship. And I am a habitual liar. I do not want to be. But that is the hand i was dealt. After my first time through it, I found this book vaguely informative in understanding most types of lying. But with confidence I can say that if you're trying to quit this ugly habit it's a good place to start. And it also helps explain the other steps I need to take to help myself become the person I want to be.

Not a how to guide
I feel lied to by the title of this book; this is not a how to guide.
The majority of the book is spent on where a compulsive liar may have picked up the habit, why someone may lie, and different types of therapy - which is literally just a list of different types of therapy, no explanation on why each type may help.
There is about two minutes spent on How To do anything, for example the author suggests meditation but doesnt explain how to do it or why it would assit someone in their effort to stop lying.
