This is a great Peaky Blinders meets Divine Rivals mash up. There are beings with abilities, action, a slow burn arranged marriage, betrayal and more in this story.

Def recommend and looking forward to the next book.

Outstanding

Can’t wait for book two, I loved the book but hate that book two was not available to follow up on the story. I hope it comes out soon before I get caught up in other audio books and forget about this one and how Camila story ends.

Loved this!!

This was so good! I agree with the other reviewers that it has a steampunk/peaky blinders vibe to it and I didn’t know what to think about that going into it but I ended up loving the unique world building. Both the FMC and MMC are fierce in their own right but with kind hearts and I think that’s one of the things I enjoyed most about this book. Can’t wait for book 2! Don’t miss this one!

Top 3 Books of 2024!

This book has made it to my top 3 reads of this year. I love it so much and can’t wait for book 2! I loved the banter between the FMC and the MMC. The audio version is perfection!

peaky Blinders

I loved this! Peaky Blinders but make it magic and throw some romance in it. my only complaint is its not a duet style audiobook.

I. Am. Here. For. This. Peaky blinders meets magic meets amazing narration

Originally I read this book on my kindle. I'd had it preordered for a few months and had my own little countdown for it to come out. Guess what?!? It was so good that I had to buy it in print to live in my bookshelf as the trophy it is. But then. Then the audiobook came out and as a person who lives for audiobooks I had it preordered the day it was announced. And the narrations just adds so freaking much to this book. Sometimes I don’t love when women do male voices or when men do female voices but this time both were phenomenal. Sometimes I found myself asking “wait is this a duet” (it’s not).

Now I'm not going to give you a big ol' review, there are people who are way better at that stuff but I will tell you that this book was like reading a fantasy Peaky Blinders and I AM HERE. FOR. IT. 5 Stars. Take all my money. I can't wait for the next book.

The VA for Nicolai 🤤😰

This was an interesting and original take on an overly saturated genre.

The only reason I can’t rate this 5 stars is because Camilla took a little too long to grow on me.

I would classify this as more of historical fantasy than romantasy, but that’s just me.

A solid 4 star read, and that epilogue…. I’m glad I was given an Advance Reader’s copy of The City of Mirth and Malice!

Magic

If you are looking for read that has Peaky Blinders and magic feel to it, then I would suggest House of Bane and Blood.

I have not watched Peaky Blinders but after reading this I need to start binge watching the series. The book also has a feel for Grishaverse universe with some of its magic system but I also found that the magic is also different because it incorporates science and alchemy in it. There is also vampires and shifters which I really like.

"I would run through fire and burn for you, I would lose an arm and leg and limb. I'd do it all over, knowing what would happen to me if it meant eventually having you as I do now."

The chemistry between Camilla and Nico was pretty intense, you could literally feel it through the pages. I enjoy their flirtous banter between them. The fact that they went into this marriage because each one wanted to save their families even though they were sworn enemies, they were both trying to not give into the intense attraction they felt for each other which after while I kept saying just give in already.

Then we reached the final chapter and it was so pack with action everywhere and then the final scene just blew my mind with it ending in cliffhanger. I really can't wait to read City of Mirth and Malice next to find out what going to happen next.
