Awkward, uneven and immature

The first half of this novella plays like a grade school cozy, closed door romance, with giggling and tickling and a kooky fake fiancé scheme. I kept thinking, who talks like that? I kept asking why Lucy gloms onto every guy who looks at her, even though she’s clearly not interested. And when Justin enters the picture an hour later, i was rolling my eyes and thinking it was completely unrealistic that they’d reunite in a fake engagement while not addressing why he ghosted her.

The second half was a record scratch, suddenly throwing F bombs and dirty sex … and still they don’t talk about why he ghosted her before (although by this point, I guessed the reason, which yeah, was just as silly and so not a good reason for ghosting). Then there’s the epilogue, where things go full on bondage. This was one of the oddest romances and gave zero chemistry.
