Great combination of story and performance

I have read all the Wolves of Manhattan stories and was so excited to see the first story in audio. Joel Leslie's performance is stellar, his command of accents and French pronunciation is almost perfect.

For those who like shifter stories, this series has some different conventions than you usually see but it all makes sense and is internally consistent.

Looking forward to the other books in audio!

Great Narration can't save a groanworthy story.

I don't mind a cheesy love story. I don't mind insta-love. But combined with poor writing it doesn't do it for me at all. The story manages to be both predictable and unbelievable. The world if weres seems to by a fantastically idealic combination of progressive values (ecologically responsible, socialist yet economically thriving, and gay loving ) while also incredibly mysogynistic. And a word on that ilidyllic socialist society, at one point Arman observes that every member of a pack has the ability be affluent if they work hard but lazy people won't make a lot of money. He says this while admitting that his fortune was handed to him by his family on no merits of his own.

There were mixed messages and the end result is a world that I do not like and main characters I don't admire.
There was a goal here, but I think the author just missed it.

Joel Leslie is amazing, as per usual. But I actually wish Armond didn't have a French accent. I don't know why he did. His ancestors are French but haven't they lived in the US for at least a generation?

Meh... it was okay

For what it was and how long it was I can only classify it as being just okay. I feel that the story leans for heavily towards being about men that it should have just been an all male society. Women were constantly referred to as b!tches and always had a subservient place and where referred to and used only as breeders that have no life or place of their own save for being there to be at a man's beck and call. I think that aspect alone is my biggest issue with the book, my second issue is with the way he's always calling him baby, that times and ways that he says it makes it sound so fu*king creepy, my last issue with the book is that the concept isn't really all that bad but it just seems like the author was just trying to rush through everything to just get it done and it felt like there was a lot that was unresolved and not fleshed out the way it should have been, like the issue with is father or how things went after the interview and whether it made a difference or not. It's a good listen if you wanna just have something light and fun to listen to. Oh and the sex scenes where like something that was written by teenage guy without an imagination or any experience with sex.

Good book poor narration!

I have very difficult time with Joel Leslie’s narration. I have try to listen to him before and I just can’t do it. The story seemed good but I had to stop listening. Sorry but I won’t listen to any more of his narrations.

Ok audiobook for a car ride

I liked the general plot line. Man is hunted, man finds mate. Mate saves man. Man turns out to be ~special~. However the beginning of the relationship was a bit,,, pushy. Red flags were being raised for me, and I know it’s just a book, but if it was me I would run far and fast. However this book entertained me on my commute to and from work so I won’t say too much against it.

Okay story, amazing narration

What made the experience of listening to His Omega the most enjoyable?

Joel Leslie's narration, he did a great job of making sure each character had their own voice. Not just that, there were many cultures with varying accents involved in the storyline (French, British, Russian, Irish) and he nailed each and every one.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The various aspects and characteristics of Sean as the Omega and Alpha Mate of the pack was different enough from most shifter stories to intrigue me.

I cannot keep count of how many times Armand called Sean 'baby' - it was distracting and almost nails on a chalk board frustrating because the one hundred fifty something year old Alpha couldn't string two sentences together without using the term.

What does Joel Leslie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He thoroughly conveys every accent flawlessly, which only adds to the depth of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The conversations with Sean, Armand and their wolf cub adopted daughter.

Any additional comments?

Story: 2.5 stars
Performance: 5 stars
Overall: 3.75 stars

I was drawn into this story from the start and while it was mostly Leslie's narration that kept me hinged to the book, there were some good aspects to the actual story itself as well. The world of this particular Shifter community and the way things were described that was just different enough to keep me intrigued. The hierarchy and the way things were set up, dealt with and the way everything played out spoke of the Author's skills to build this world and create the characters.

The breakdowns for me were that a Centuries old Alpha wolf only seemed to know ONE term of endearment, baby. Sean's complete change of heart literally from one minute to the next. The use of the term "bitch" when referring to damn near every female wolf. And the anit-climatic ending. I wanted a bit more of an explosion and, I actually liked what took place with Sean at the end and would have loved that to be explored a bit more.

Leslie's narration as always was spot on. He nailed every accent, tone and inflection with precision and truly brought the characters to life for me. While I'm unsure if I would read or recommend the written story, I highly recommend the audiobook because it is such a treat, even with the aspects of the story that I didn't care for.

MMy Thoughts and Review:

Ok- confession time... I found this audio book by searching and picking narrators rather than authors or genres or tropes, though the genre is a given for me and the fact it's a Shifter series is a plus!💜

The Story was okay, but made great by Joel's narration. He brought the characters and world they lived in to life. I was able to relate and empathize with the pain, confusion and struggles Sean went through and then how that extended when he stumbled, quite literally into Armand's arms and life.

Even when trouble followed the couple out of the city and onto pack lands, Sean and Armand drew strength from each other and that bled through Joel's narration.

I read quite a few reviews that mentioned the editing issues in the book. Thankfully, I had no need to worry with that, as Joel Leslie's voice characters took me from one place to another seamlessly.

I am very much looking forward to listening to book two! 😍

Disappointing DNF

I didn't hate it, but it was kinda corny. The narration is just ok. I just can't get past a warewolf that sounds like a vampire. If the story had been better, I may have made it.
