Acerca de esta escucha

The first edition of Greentown helped reopen one of America's most shameful unsolved murder cases, the savage slaying of 15-year-old Martha Moxley in an exclusive enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut, the night before Halloween 1975. Soon after Martha's body was discovered, attention focused on members of the Skakel family, who lived across the street from the Moxleys. Ethel Skakel and Robert Kennedy had married in Greenwich, and the two families were close. Thomas Skakel, Ethel’s nephew, was the last known person to see Martha alive. The murder weapon, a ladies' golf club, came from the Skakel household. When the Greenwich police tried to pursue its investigation, however, the community closed in upon itself. Lawyers were summoned, walls went up, information was suppressed, and no one was charged. And yet, continuing to haunt Greenwich, the case refused to go away - until, 23 years later, following the publication of this book, a grand jury was convened, and two years after that a man - Thomas' brother Michael - was finally indicted for the crime.

This revised edition now brings the Martha Moxley murder case to a close. Updated to include the indictment, trial, and conviction of the murderer, Greentown offers the suspenseful and chilling account of a terrible crime. More than that, while relating a tale of seductive power, it uses the murder to tell the heartrending story of a family and a community responding to the unthinkable.

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre Greentown

Con calificación alta para:

The Audiobook Provides A Comprehensive And Detailed Account Of The Martha Moxley Murder Case, Delving Into The Lives Of The Wealthy Families Involved, Particularly The Skakels And Kennedys. While Praised For Its Engaging Narrative And Descriptive Writing, Many Listeners Felt The Story Was Bogged Down By Excessive Tangents, Irrelevant Information, And A Confusing Structure. The Narration Was Also Criticized As Monotonous At Times. Despite These Issues, The Book Offers An Interesting Exploration Of A High-profile True Crime Case, Examining Themes Of Class, Privilege, And The Dynamics Within Affluent Communities.

Interesting True Crime

This is an interesting and detailed true crime book about a murder of a 15 year old. For those that are interested in the Kennedy’s this is also for you. It’s interesting to see how their family and lives intersect with others.

Well written and engaging

Very detailed and well written. I knew of this story but this book does a nice job of delving deep into the details while still keeping the reader engaged. Great descriptive writing that flows well and keeps you hooked

Too long / confusing

Too many details on too many peripheral people ... by the time he got to the end I had no idea who was whom and the significance of who was arrested for the crime.

Informative but very long

The details to the case were great. The only down side to this book was the about of information that really didn’t pertain to the Moxley murder. I would sometimes become lost as to what century he was referring to and the people’s names began to run to together. If you choose to listen to this book, feel free to fast forward through the history of Greenwich…you won’t miss anything regarding the murder case.

I knew nothing of this before I listened

I was born in the mid80s in NJ and was already out of there by the time the trial happened, so I didn't know anything about the murder. Obviously I knew the name Skakel, but that's where my knowledge ended. Listening to the book, it's not clear to me if the conviction is correct, though I have no reason to think it wasn't. It's horribly sad. Excellent reporting. Very interesting subject.

Drones on....

The narrator made this monotonous along with the side tangents within the story, making it difficult to care about the overall story.

Dissident...

I wouldn't attest to Skakel's innocence, but based on what prosecutors presented against him, there was nothing of substance to convict him on. The book was great overall, although, I felt the author was a bit biased against him toward the end. I liked his first-person documentation. That's what makes this book stand out to me.

The author gets in the way

This story is an interesting one and I liked how it was written (mostly). my biggest complaint was the author inserting himself as much as he did - the switch from 3rd to 1st person was hard sometimes. The performance was great though!

too many side stories

There were way too many characters to keep them all straight. This could have been a much shorter book if the author had not included so much useless history or side stories.
