A man possessed by an alien parasite struggles to control superpowers that drive him to kill in the second volume of this science-fiction adventure series.

Dak Korasa believed he was a galaxy-exploring archaeologist and expert in alien antiquities. But his body is merely a vessel, grown in a laboratory to find and play host to an alien parasite species known as the chok’tal. Possessed by this entity, Dak was granted superhuman abilities as well as the consciousness of the chok’tal’s previous host: special forces soldier Jekra Modri.

Now, he’s a Purifier, one of the deadliest predators in the universe. But to survive, Dak must earn “kill points” in combat—or the chok’tal within his body will kill him.

The Order of the Radiant Throne is a society of mechanized monks who’ve surrendered their bodies and dedicated their minds to ending organic life’s suffering cycles. Akasha, whose people were slaughtered by the Purifiers, believes Dak may be the order’s ordained champion, capable of passing the three trials that will grant him greater control over his powers and free him from the chok’tal’s insidious influence. But as Dak undertakes each dangerous test, he grows more and more suspicious of the monks’ motives. For behind their altruism is a prophecy, in which Dak has a role as both a destructive weapon—and a sacrificial lamb . . .

The Purifier series contains copious amounts of blood, violence, and profanity. It is not recommended for the faint of heart.

Wow, that was an incredible ride. Worldbuilding is off the charts and the challenge ahead will blow your mind. Definitely spring for audio as Scott nails the narration as usual. Looking forward to book three and what will happen next! I’m done trying to guess :)

Cool scifi litrpg with monster battles galore

Too much on descriptive term and concepts. I really liked the first one too. More words

Too much philosophy for me

This is okay, if you really liked book one you will make it thru this be but to be honest it is not near as strong as the first book

Okay…

The first in the series was engaging and exciting. This book didn't follow the same pattern. It veered into the mysticism, that true did drive the plotline, but it reminded me more of a college philosophy lecture than a sci-fi book. Dabbling for the sake of clarification and driving the plot makes sense, but it went there and camped. The only reason I finished it was because I wanted to get back to the story. This author can do an amazing job as evinced by the first in the series, but this one did not follow the pattern. Again, loved the first book, but this one was not for me. I'm certain others would enjoy it and I hope they do, but beware this one is different.

Not like the first.
