Death imitates art in the brand-new crime thriller starring homicide cop Eve Dallas from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author J.D. Robb.

Manhattan is filled with galleries and deep-pocketed collectors who can make an artist's career with a wave of a hand. But one man toils in obscurity, his brilliance unrecognized while lesser talents bask in the glory he believes should be his. Come tomorrow, he vows, the city will be buzzing about his work.

Indeed, before dawn, Lt. Eve Dallas is speeding toward the home of the two gallery owners whose doorway has been turned into a horrifying crime scene overnight. A lifeless young woman has been elaborately costumed and precisely posed to resemble the model of a long-ago Dutch master, and Dallas plunges into her investigation.

"Narrator Susan Ericksen's performance vibrates with energy as she portrays old and new characters in this series."—AudioFile on Desperation in Death, an Earphones Award winner.

The strength of the main character. The overall story line and the fact that the author can keep us in suspense time and time again. Looking forward to #62.

I love that there are elements that are repeated from past cases (imitation, murder for/as art, spoiled brat syndrome) that have been combined in a new way to create another great work of fiction. With over 70 In Death stories under her belt Nora has to be careful she doesn’t recreate a previous book and this book is the perfect example of how to repeat pieces without repeating the whole. If I wasn’t already rereading the series this book would make me want to pick up the series again.

Another hit

Has she run out of ideas. I felt it was a repeat of Portraits in Death. Many friends interactions but a little disappointing

I love the continuation of the characters from one book to the next. I also love the rap rapport between the characters. I love solving the crime right along with her.

you can't go wrong with JD Robb

First, I wanted to acknowledge that I enjoy Ms Robb’s (Roberts) epigraphs in her books. All these years and titles and it was past time.
Next, I want to acknowledge how much I appreciate knowing I can count on a Robb/Roberts book for quality entertainment. Her titles are an automatic preorder for me.
Possible Spoilers:
This installment is set in New York City, September, 2061
Eve Dallas & crew hunt for a serial killer who engages licensed companions to dress in period costume and pose for his paintings. He then strangles them, glues and wires them up, then poses them at the homes & galleries of individuals who have turned down his work.
In between, we get the completion of their house and move in of Mavis, Leonardo, Bella, Peabody & McNab. Happy and sweet times:-)
Erickson does her usual excellent job of narration with clear emotions and character differentiation. Always a treat and the reason I buy the audio.

solid installment

I have listened to all the books in the series, many of them more than once. This particular story unfolds in its typical formulaic manner. That is, first there is the murder(s), next the hunt for the murderer, identification of the murderer, and finally the take down of the murderer. In many of the take down sequences in the previous books, the squad seems to become like "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight." But not this time. The squad worked like well-oiled machine, which was refreshing. And the twist at the end was inspired. Throughout the 61-book series Nora leaves what I call Easter eggs. These are things like planed events, Peabody's detective exam, the astounding quality of Roark's coffee, and the remodel of Mavis's and Peabody's homes, to mention a few. Lots of nice easter eggs in book 61. And, finally and gratefully, no discussion of Eve childhood trauma issues.

One of the better if not the Best of the Series.

Nora did an amazing job of painting the characters and the scenes in this story! I finished it in a day and can’t wait to go back and see what I missed!
