Your handbook for mastering the negotiating skills in the multimillion-copy bestseller Never Split the Difference.

You're in a negotiation right now. In fact, you've been negotiating all day.

That email to your boss? Negotiation. That conversation with your teenager? Negotiation. That interaction with the barista who made your morning coffee? Negotiation too.

Most people don't realize they're negotiating until it's too late. But what if you could get what you want while making others feel valued?

In this follow-up to the global bestseller Never Split the Difference, negotiation experts Jonathan B. Smith and Derek Gaunt provide a practical handbook for applying Tactical Empathy—the ability to understand and influence people at a level they don’t even realize—to every sensitive conversation in your life.

Discover how to:

  • Begin disarming defenses by making your counterpart feel genuinely understood.
  • Acquire critical information by mastering the 5 Levels of Listening that uncover hidden motivations
  • Spot game-changing "Black Swans" that swing seemingly impossible negotiations to your advantage
  • Defuse tension and navigate high-pressure situations with confidence using the Core Four skills
  • Get more of what you want without burning bridges or compromising your integrity

Forged in high-stakes hostage crises and refined in thousands of business negotiations, these battle-tested techniques aren't based on academic theory—they're proven methods that work when the pressure is on.

Stop leaving money on the table. Stop enduring unnecessary conflict. Stop accepting less than you deserve.

This isn't just another business book—it's the missing manual for every negotiation in your life.

Another masterful book by Voss’ team - it is a great follow up to never split the difference

All of it. The specific steps to learn and apply this tool. Excellent information for any executive.

Tactical Empathy

After 25+ years in recruiting, I’ve learned that most challenges come down to communication. Fight Less, Win More is a practical reminder that better results come from listening, empathy, and clearer conversations, not force.

This book applies directly to real situations with clients, candidates, teams, and everyday relationships. It’s thoughtful, usable, and a great read for anyone who wants better conversations and better outcomes.

Excellent!

This book is powerful! It's a great explanation of tools that help in any kind of conversation - with spouses, co-workers, vendors, clients. I have referred it my clients, many of who are family business owners. It helps them as leaders and as family, working together! I highly recommend this book.

Powerful Tools for EQ Conversations / Negotiations

The tools and skills mentioned in the book are 100% implementable from Day 1. It's not necessary to read Never Split the Difference, but having a familiarity of the material in that book works as a great foundation to the deeper expansion of the skills discussed. My only criticism (constructively) is that, at times, the narrator (JBS) sounds uninterested or indifferent in his tone when reading, to a point where it almost makes the content less impactful. It's not throughout the entire book, but certain sections/chapters that feel as though the recording we are hearing was maybe the 4th, 5th, 9th take and he sounds annoyed at production for having to read the same thing multiple times.

A Great Enhancement
