From New York Times bestsellers Preston and Child, archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson are tasked with the mysterious deaths of two people found at a site where a UFO allegedly crashed decades before.

Lucas Tappan, a wealthy and eccentric billionaire and founder of Icarus Space Systems, approaches the Santa Fe Archaeological Institute with an outlandish proposal—to finance a careful, scientific excavation of the Roswell Incident site, where a UFO is alleged to have crashed in 1947. A skeptical Nora Kelly, to her great annoyance, is tasked with the job.

Nora's excavation immediately uncovers two murder victims buried at the site, faces and hands obliterated with acid to erase their identities. Special Agent Corrie Swanson is assigned to the case. As Nora’s excavation proceeds, uncovering things both bizarre and seemingly inexplicable, Corrie’s homicide investigation throws open a Pandora's box of espionage and violence, uncovering bloody traces of a powerful force that will stop at nothing to protect its secrets—and that threatens to engulf them all in an unimaginable fate.

I decided to write this review because so many reviewers disliked the narration. I almost didn't buy this title because of those reviews. So if you are like me and like the synopsis of the book but are worried because of all the negative reviews of the narrator, don't be. I found the narration fine and not distracting. One reviewer mentioned the narrator mispronouncing place names such as Alamogordo. I am from Southern New Mexico and I didn't notice those. The same person narrated the first book of this series and in both she correctly pronounced Alamogordo. I think her range of voices for the different characters was fine.

Cynthia Farrell's narration was good!

I didn't think they could top Pendergast but for me, they absolutely have! Also, I didn't think the narrator did half bad and, in fact, quite liked her! I'm usually finicky about female narrators. I can hardly wait for this duo's next story as I expect it to be, indubitably, fascinating!

My Favorite So Far

Book 3 in this series and I think it has found its footing. This felt like the smoothest of series so far with both Nora and Corrie full on doing what they are best at. Nora with her archeology and Corrie as a trained FBI agent. This is the first book in the series without a cameo appearance by agent Pendergast, and that is actually a good thing. It's showing us that this is no longer a side spin off series, but an interesting and independent entity of its own.

The plot involves a billionaire who has decided to do a proper archeological excavation of the infamous Roswell UFO crash site to prove something extraterrestrial did crash there. Nora is brought in, much against her better judgement, to head the dig. Almost immediately, they make a surprising discovery... two decades old murder victims. This brings in Corrie and the FBI. What should be fairly routine from there, takes some wild turns with atomic secrets, shady government agencies, and murders.

The book ends with some game changing events that promise the potential for even wilder adventures to come.

Recommended.

Nora and Corrie are back

If you liked their previous mystery/thriller set in New Mexico, “The Scorpions Tail”, then climb onboard for another thrill - this time Roswell, and that’s all I’m saying! I guess I could include the gangs all here: Nora, Corrie, Skip, Sheriff Wyatt, and doggo Middy. Enjoy!

F-U-N!

A little more far fetched than previous books in the series but overall good.

Another good Preston and Child story

Not what I think of as a Pendergast book. Will not be buying another featuring the wonan.

Not my favorite

We did like the story, but it had too much bad language, in our opinion.

Good story

The story is fantastic, exactly what I've come to expect from Lincoln and Child. My complaint is the narrator. The constant hesitation in the dialogue from all the characters was infuriating.

great story frustrating narrator

Well, it is ok . I expected more from my favorite authors. it's an ok adventure with some elements of tragic violence and happy romance. I hope that the next in the series will have more archeology and less anthropology. but that is just my flavor.

Well, ok

The book is well-written and the narrator does a good job (although the male voices all sound the same). The story was good but the amount surviving these insane situations does get tedious at times. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

An enjoyable read
