Resumen del Editor

It's never too late to chase your dreams: Before she discovered running, Nita Sweeney was 49-years-old, chronically depressed, occasionally manic, and unable to jog for more than 60 seconds at a time. Using exercise, Nita discovered an inner strength she didn't know she possessed, and with the help of her canine companion, she found herself on the way to completing her first marathon. In her memoir, Sweeney shares how she overcame emotional and physical challenges to finish the race and come back from the brink.

There's hope and help on the track: Anyone who has struggled with depression knows the ways the mind can defeat you. However, it is possible to transform yourself with the power of running. You may learn that you can endure more than you think, and that there's no other therapy quite like pavement beneath your feet.

Depression Hates a Moving Target is a witty and poignant story of rediscovery. Whether you're born to run or just looking for rebirth, you will:

  • Be inspired by the powerful story of one woman-and her dog.
  • Cheer on Nita as she endures the challenges of a marathon and a mind in turmoil.
  • And discover the power of running to overcome obstacles.

Inspirational book

I found myself relating to so many of the thoughts and feelings of the author. Living in Columbus for 3 years now I have run on these same trails and courses. In the middle of listening to chapter 25, I was driving down High Street smiling because I could picture the race. Such an honest perspective on the games a runner’s mind plays in this sport.

Good story...bad narration

The content of the book is very good and even interesting; however, i recommend you read the book rather than listen to this audible version. The narrater is mechanical has a nasal pitch that I found incredibly difficult to get past.
I made it up to the last hour or so and gave up. For me personally, the story and all it’s funny lines and author’s self-discoveries are lost in the narration. I hope you have a better experience.

Great read!!!!

As a runner who used to do lots of road races including marathons hi & now is older & does Ultra Trail races, the story resonates with me - I have had many similar experiences. I am also a ChiRunner and have learned to run injury-free!!! This is a great story written in a way that you don’t want to put it down!

inspiring. The training, the persistence changed a woman who had been depressed all her life.

A MUST READ journey of resilience and hope

Bipolar disorder is a cruel illness that strips the sufferer of vitality and robs them of hope. Yet, through abysmal chemical lows, compounded by grief over the loss of family members and friends, Nita Sweeney persevered, surmounting one "impossible" obstacle, then the next. This breathtaking, impeccably woven novel belongs in the hands of anyone--runner or not--who could use a boost of confidence. And it's a must-read for those whose lives have been crippled by bipolar disorder. Depression Hates a Moving Target won't dupe you with promises of a cure, but it will inspire you to believe things CAN get better.

Inspiration and Up Close and Personal

I loved how this book chronicles the real details of the everyday discipline of becoming g a runner. Nita is honest about her struggles and triumphs so you feel you don’t have to be a superhero to be considered a runner. I took this audiobook on my runs. Though I don’t struggle with clinical depression, I find running lifts me out of the winter blues too. She makes me grateful for the joy of movement which lasts longer than any race.
