Resumen del Editor

In his gripping memoir, Cory Reese offers a compelling and vulnerable insight into the pervasive destruction of depression. Drawing on lessons learned over a decade of ultramarathon running, Stronger than the Dark offers a powerful new approach in the battle against depression: the willingness to embrace suffering.

In a moment of physical and mental crisis during a 314-mile race across Tennessee, he realizes with clarity life’s ultimate purpose. We are here to endure. We are here to help others turn pain into peace. We are here to be a beacon of kindness and compassion.

Cory’s beautifully broken path of healing speaks to anyone feeling lost in insecurity or despair and gives hope that even in life’s darkest moments, we can find the light.

What A Wonderful Soul

Very deft for me. I used to joke that I don't run, but I listen to books about running. This title is an excellent addition to "Nowhere Near First". As I said I don't run, but I did in high school. My cross country coach passed away in 2019. He was a legend and a mentor. This story was helpful in processing my coach passing away. Kyle Fait did a fine narration. I suspect not everyone will have the same take on this, but I found it valuable. Also the discussion was useful in coming to terms with faith.

Wow- thank you Cory for sharing!

I’ve always known Cory to be funny Cory or fast Cory but never sad Cory. I have enjoyed every one of his books and have been encouraged to keep running from him. I am truly appreciative of his openness to document his story of realizing and facing his vulnerabilities and struggles with depression. Especially learning how to ask for help. Anxiety and depression has always carried a stigma and I loved that he shared his story to let us all know we too can ask for help, maybe recognize someone we love needs help. I hope you would take the time to read or listen to this story. I’m taking away a handful of new tools and am sure I will listen to this a few more times. We’re not alone, thanks Cory!

Cory Reese: road angel

A tender, funny, honest memoir about how the practice of running helped one runner find the strength to meet the challenge of depression. The interviews at the end of the book are a welcome bonus. The narrator was fine, but I regret that the author didn’t read his own book - his own voice makes his storytelling even more vibrant

Amazing book about depression and the strategies that help.

I Highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with mental health issues, so all of us. The author opens up with vulnerability in a deeply meaningful way. You’ll find hope, self care kindness, and humor in this book. It’s a book that may just change the way we look at therapy, ultra running, and our fellow humans. I loved this book.

Life, Mental Health and Running

Cory puts a bright light on his mental health struggles. This book examines his problems and the work he is doing to move forward in an honest and meaningful way. Hopefully more people will feel better about seeking help for their emotional health in the same way we seek help for injury or other illnesses.

I love all Cory Reese books. I find them so inspiring and funny and with this book, very real and thought provoking. I don’t struggle with the issues Cory does but someone I love does. This helped me to see things from a different perspective. Thank you for sharing this part of your story.
