Ghosts!

First book in the Spirit Boys series. Both of the main characters work in a morgue and are affected by ghosts. Bran as a necromancer and Jordan can feel a ghosts pain. This book lays the groundwork for the series and is interconnected with the Valley Ghosts and the Mystical Markings series. I enjoyed listening to the book and am always up for more!!

Bran and Jordan

This is book 1 of the Spirit Boys Series. Bran and Jordan have unique abilities. One is an empath, and the other a necromancer. This makes things interesting as they navigate through intrigue and romance. Overall the story was interesting. I found the voices in narration to be irritating and detracted from the enjoyment of the book. I plan to read the actual book, instead of the narrated, before moving to the next in the series.

Good

This was a good story. I really liked the premise of a necromancer (Brad) and an empath (Jordan) working together at a morgue and solving a paranormal mystery that could otherwise have serious consequences. I, of course, know a little of empaths, but one who can feel all the emotions of the dead fascinated me. I thought the two of them made a cute match, a great team, and balanced each other well.

I listened to this narrated by Allen Jeffries. He does a good job creating different and distinct voices for all the characters and does put good energy into it. But it feels.. hmm. Dramatic in a way. Almost how I used to hear characters talk on kid-oriented TV shows and dubbed anime two decades ago. Not bad if you like that sort of thing, but I didn't care for it myself. Speeding it up a little kind of toned it down a bit and helped.

Wonderful story.

I love the connection Bran and Jordan have with each other and the fact that they both have a pull to the other side. They are stronger together and help free trapped spirits and love every second of it. I recommend this book to everyone who loves mm romance stories with some necromancy in it.

Dead Things is the first book in Spirit Boys Series. This series is part of an interconnected world so you may want to start with Valley Ghosts series then the Mystical Markings series then the novella Just Another Day at The Morgue where we are introduced to the main characters of this series and then the free short story The Cemetery Tour. This book is about Bran who has necromancer abilities and Jordan who can feel what ghosts feel. I love the world building and story telling telling BL Maxwell invites us to enjoy. I also love that the characters are in the city I live in, Sacramento California, as it makes it fun to pick out areas I am familiar with. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I really enjoyed watching these two guys become closer. If you get the audio narration, Allen Jeffries does a wonderful job of narrating this series. He makes the change in characters seamlessly. I can't wait to listen to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
