Resumen del Editor

Anything for their child

Lena Dunkirk is a practicing witch, Ryan McNally a wealthy playboy. Logic says mismatch, yet from the first they share a passion that defies reason, as if they know each other from another place, another time. Then Lena gets pregnant and runs for the safety of home.

Months later, when Ryan appears at her door looking to help raise their child, Lena doesn't know whom to trust - particularly now that 'guru to the stars' Bahru has taken an interest in her baby, offering gifts forged of magic.

Soon she and Ryan are sharing eerie dreams of ancient lands, while a vengeful demon plots to take possession of their child. As the moment of birth approaches, the demon's power rises, forcing the hand of love to wield the blade that will decide the fate of a child's soul - and the future of the world.

Lena's turn to help

Lena left Ryan 8 months ago when she found out she was pregnant. They had only been together for the previous 6 weeks. Lena scried when she was a8 year old girl and saw Ryan. So she knew that they was meant to be together. But Ryan's standoffishness forced them apart.
Now they meet again because his father died. This series in motion a series of events involving Demetrius's spirit, a chalice, a special double sided knife, and visions from a past life.
This series has just sucked me in! I can't wait to find out what happens with Demetrius and Lilia!
I love this narrator. The different voices was great.

I'm afraid it just didn't catch me in it's spell !

Firstly, I hadn't know that this is actually book 2 of the Portal trilogy - book 1 is Mark of the Witch, this is book 2 followed by Blood of the Sorceress (not yet released).

I usually like M.S.'s work but I found this book to be so frustrating, it's one of those listens that'll have you pulling your hair out over whilst screaming "can you really be sooo stupid!" - the female character Lena was always thinking "oh I'm sure I saw it.... but I must have just been dreaming it/hallucinating it/imagining it" over and over again. It started off well - woman (whose also a witch) falls in love/accidentally gets pregnant/doesn't want to share news with boyfriend/runs out on him/meets him again 7 months later after a tragedy/he moves in wanting to bond...... then it goes downhill from there.

The narration didn't help any and I felt like Lena sounded and acted very young, naive and gullible and this could easily be a YA book - no real romance and definitely no sex. It didn't have the feel of an Adult book and it's made me very unsure of any of Ms Shayne's other books.

Worth a credit? In my opinion no, nor the $ if you wanted to buy it and I won't be going back to listen to book 1 nor will I eagerly anticipate book 3's release - so that shows you just how uninterested I am.
