Resumen del Editor

She was born to save what he is sworn to destroy.

A lapsed Wiccan, Indira Simon doesn't believe in magic anymore. But when strange dreams of being sacrificed to an ancient Babylonian god have her waking up with real rope burns on her wrists, she's forced to acknowledge that she may have been too hasty in her rejection of the unknown. Then she meets mysterious and handsome Father Thomas. Emerging from the secrecy of an obscure Gnostic sect, he arrives with stories of a demon, a trio of warrior witches - and Indira's sacred calling.

Yet there's something even Tomas doesn't know, an inescapable truth that will force him to choose between saving the life of the woman he's come to love—and saving the world.

Sound story, good quick read.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to someone that wanted a quick, brain not needed, read. The story was good but predictable.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I enjoyed the comparisons between the different religions and their "rituals".

What aspect of Megan Hayes’s performance would you have changed?

Megan Hayes's performance was fine.

Do you think Mark of the Witch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

This is the first in a series. I planned on listening to all three, but I don't know if I will continue. Most likely, I will finish the series but not right away.

Any additional comments?

In some places of this book I found myself wishing they would just hurry up and move on and in others I was thinking, "That was fast." Some twists needed more setup others took too long to unwind.

Listening made it more enjoyable

I have read this book many years ago. I decided to give the audio version a try. I loved the narrators telling of the story.
Indira was a Wiccan who decided she didn't believe in magic anymore. Thomas was an ordained priest who doesn't believe in "the mission" that his mentor told him was his destiny.
When Thomas's sister Rayne told him about Indira's dream/memories that has repercussions in real time, he knows that some part of what he has been studying is real. Things that happened in Babylon centuries ago with witches, preists and possibly demons need to be fixed on Samhain on this year.
This story if very entertaining. I look forward to discovering what happens next!

repetitive

I liked the overall plot although I found a TON of repeating parts of the story. won't spoil too much but became annoying to hear about the murder over and over and the love over and over. almost like a young relationship where you bring up the past at every argument..... also there narrator sounded like she was talking with cotton in her mouth. not all the time but often enough I would be like God swallow already then keep talking. also there didn't seem to be enough pause sometimes between character speaking where her voice changes weren't always enough to realize who she was supposed to be narrating at that point.

Nothing original here

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A decent narrator and a much better story plot.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nothing written by Maggie Shayne and/or narrated by Megan Hayes.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Very annoying voice that came across as whiny and petulant. Reading pace was too slow.Frequent word mispronunciation.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Mark of the Witch?

Half the book was fluff. I skipped entire chapters due to boredom and still kept up with the very predictable plot.

Any additional comments?

At under $9 this audiobook is still not worth it.In retrospect, I would skip it.

I usually love Maggie Shayne's books.

This story would have been ok if it weren't for the heroine, Indira. She made the story totally unbearable for me. A few times her comments made me laugh, but for the most part I just wanted to smack her. To me she was just too bitchy and self absorbed.

ridiculous in a bad way.

I'm not much for bad reviews but this book is just not good. it's cheese in a bad way, obvious in it's twists and just plain uncomfortable when it comes to the religious stuff. It doesn't tie up and loose ends and frankly I was glad when it was over.
