Brilliant, sensitive, and private, Fitzwilliam Darcy finds himself at the Meryton Assembly, consciously troubled by recent events in Ramsgate and unconsciously troubled by himself. He insults Elizabeth Bennet, at whom he has only glanced. It is not until she appears at Netherfield—full of life, skirted in mud, and eager to attend to her sick sister—that Darcy truly looks at her. When he does, he knows she is the woman he has been searching for, the elusive her of his heart. He falls for her completely…despite her apparent unsuitability to be the Mistress of Pemberley and his half-hearted efforts to convince himself he can live without her.

Shortly before Elizabeth leaves Netherfield, Darcy apologizes for what he said at the Assembly. Will that apology and the depth of his sudden but durable feelings give him hope with Elizabeth? Might George Wickham’s arrival frustrate his hopes, especially after Darcy blunders into a marriage proposal to Elizabeth? Romantic, reflective, and ironic, this is a story told from Darcy’s point of view, a story of the struggle from intellect to heart—a deliberate character study and a delicate love story.

Love the narrator! I buy all his historical fiction audiobooks. This is a nice story too.

Another great audiobook

I really enjoyed this book. Darcy realises early on that he loves Elizabeth. He wants a courtship but blurts out a marriage proposal. Bad Wickham. Great Jaff.

Great read.

Loved the philosophy lessons! Plutarch and Samuel Johnson. Elizabeth was a smidge irritatingly unkind. Darcy was a dream though.

Authentic variation

Darcy and Lizzy spend time together the whole book which is what I love most about variations.
The narration is superb!

Loved it!

As others have mentioned, there is a philosophical bent to this variation, but it fits for the sort of man I have believed Darcy to be — in his head (and struggling to stay there) rather than risk his heart. This is a slow story, so those who want drama and fast action may not care for it, but the story shows a depth of character to Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy and I appreciated that very much. This story is from Darcy’s Viewpoint - I liked that, too. Lots of on-stage time given to Darcy and Lizzy (another plus for this story). AND, finally, read by Neil McFarlane - a very good narrator. I enjoyed this book very much and expect to re-listen to it in the not too distant future.

Great Variation for Understanding Darcy

This is not a lighthearted story. There is a HEA, satisfying end to the 3 main villians (not enough of those in variations), and ODC are the heart and soul of this take. The narrator did a fine job, but I won't actively seek his narrations out.

Philisophical musings

I had previously read this story, and I thought it was okay. It was a bit ponderous. I remember thinking that it was one of those books that would be better as an audiobook with the right narrator as it's very introspective.

I was thrilled to see that one of my favorite narrators, Neil Roy Mcfarlane, narrated the story. He did a great job of taking this somewhat dry story (especially the first half) and bringing it to life.

One of my favorite narrators

The performance and story were both enjoyable to my tastes but some might find the story overly philosophical. I had read the reviews on Goodreads prior to starting the audiobook so it didn’t take me by surprise but it was still a bit overbearing at times. I did enjoy the amount of time ODC spent together in this rendition and enjoyed even more insight into Darcy’s mind. Would recommend to fans of P&P.

Very philosophical but enjoyable
