In the game of love, it's hard to level the playing field when your opponent is the one who got away.

I was nine years old when I claimed Charlie King as mine. We were in love—high school sweethearts—until one devastating day when it all fell apart.

Two years later, she's back in my life and needs a place to live. Sure, she's infuriating, and her kissable, smart mouth keeps me on my toes, but her being in my space falls into my plan to get her back.

Charlie doesn't want anything to do with me, but I'll be damned if I let her walk out of my life again. Even if it means the dark secrets of my past will come rushing back to haunt us both.

When we're down to the wire, it's time to make a counter play and win my girl back for good.

Beckett "Beck" Linson & Charline "Charlie" King's book

What a great book to start off this new series with. We have childhood neighbors, friends, crushes and relationships starting ending and reconnecting again. All this wrapped in a college football romance, one of my favorite tropes!!

Tropes:
🏈 College Sports Romance (Football)
🌸 Second Chance
🏈 Twin Brothers/Teammates Best Friend
🌸 Roommates
🏈 Traumatic Past
🌸 Strong FMC
🏈 Possessive MMC
🌸 First Loves
🏈 It's Always Been You
🌸 Childhood Crushes

Narrators: Angelina Rocca and Jameson Adams. This was my first time listening to either of these narrators. I actually really enjoyed them and their voices. Angelina did a fantastic job narrating both the female and male lines. I really liked her voice when she read the male parts. I don't say that to often about female narrators, but this one did amazing during this lines. She did amazing as a whole with this book. There was a minor part in this book when she was supposed to sound like the FMC and read it in her male voice. But that was the only minor part.

Jameson did a great job as well. I don't think any particular thing made him stand out as better than the rest, but I did enjoy listening to him read this book.

Charlie is starting her sophomore year at Walker U, where she transferred in. She's spent the last year at Chandler U where she followed her so called best friend from high school. Let's just say this bff off hers showed her true colors there freshman year there.

Charlie decides to go to Walker U where he twin brother, Casey is and his best friend, her ex, Beckett. Him and Casey both play football for the college and have dreams of making it to the NFL.

When they arrive at the fraternity house Charlie will be rooming at, they discover they don't have a room for her ready. After some discussion they all agree that she'll be sleeping on a cot at her brothers house that he shares with her ex and 2 other football players. Oh, and her cot will have to stay in Beck's room because he has the most space for her to sleep.

Beck has been in love with Charlie since he moved across the street from her when he was 10 years old. But senior year of high school, their relationship ended when Charlie believed what her bff, Brittany told her. The and bff she followed to college and showed her true colors. Yes, she let that girl ruin her relationship with Beck.

Beck has plans to win Charlie back. He had never stopped loving her and still has plans to make a life with her and a future. He just has to find a way to get her over the hate she seems to have towards him.

Beck didn't have a great start in life. He has a younger sister, Brooke (who has her own book, book #5) and he's always been her protector. It's just him, her and their dad, Ryan. Beck has never shared anything about his past to Charlie or he twin, his bff, Casey. He doesn't like to relive it, and doesn't want his past colliding with his future.

Him not sharing about his past ends up causing problems when Charlie runs into his mom at a playoff game and invites her to join her on the field to "surprise" Beck. Let's just say his mom just got out of prison and pretty much abused and traumatized her children. Beck seeing his mom with Charlie cause major problems. This is what he never wanted Charlie to find out about him.

It makes him think of himself as weak or not enough. Then pretty much let's Charlie know that she also thought of him as not enough when she chose to believe her old bff over him. Someone that showed his love to her over and over.

Beckett had some trauma he needed to work through and Charlie decided to give him space during all this and stay with her fraternity friends. It messed with Beck because he needed her, but he also knew he needed to work through some things.

I really loved this couple. Their love story was one made of deep friendship and love that outshine through everything. They had their ups and downs, but I loved how they wanted to work on themselves to be the best partner they could be.

This is a great book to read and can be read as a standalone or in any order. I actual read this book 3rd in the series, but it didn't throw me off any. So 5 books in this series is in the same timeline throughout Charlie and Casey's time at Walker U. I loved reading the ebooks but I always think an audiobook makes everything better. Especially when it's done correctly like this one was.
